Yangyang café with electric boats and coffee: Cafe Dunchi

In short

Cafe Dunchi is a café and watersports spot on the Namdaecheon River in Yangyang, Gangwon. I drove an electric boat for about 30 minutes, then took out an iced coffee from the second-floor café. It was more about taking in the scenery than speed, and having coffee in the same building made the route convenient.

During my trip to Yangyang, I wanted an experience different from sightseeing by the sea, so I visited Cafe Dunchi on the Namdaecheon River. It combines watersports and a café; I rode the electric boat first, then took out coffee separately after the experience.

Where is Cafe Dunchi, and is parking convenient?

Cafe Dunchi is at 295 Ilchul-ro, Yangyang-eup, Yangyang-gun. The parking lot in front of the café was quite large, so it was convenient to visit by car. The building has watersports on the first floor and the café on the second floor.

According to the original post, the café is open daily from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM, with last orders at 8:30 PM. Boat hours differ from the café’s, running from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

How much are Namdaecheon electric boats, and how long is the ride?

The electric boat is one you drive yourself on the Namdaecheon River for about 30 minutes. At the time of my visit, the listed price was ₩30,000 for four people and ₩40,000 for six people. We decided to ride the boat before going up to the café.

Is an electric boat easy to drive for first-timers?

Before boarding, I put on a life jacket and listened to a staff member explain how to operate the boat and the safety precautions. You steer with a wheel, so it was simpler to operate than I expected, and even as a first-timer I adapted quickly. There were no pedals to push, so I could travel around the Namdaecheon River without much effort.

Holding the wheel and moving slowly myself made the view from the water feel different. It was not especially fast, so rather than being scary, it felt more like taking in the sights at ease in the breeze. I thought it would also be nice for couples or families to ride together.

Can you listen to music on the boat?

The electric boat supports Bluetooth, so you can play music you like while riding. There were cup holders too, but we decided to have coffee later, so we focused on steering and the scenery while on the boat.

At first, I thought 30 minutes would be enough, but time passed quickly as we changed direction, took photos, and listened to music. I enjoyed the time on the river enough that the experience felt short.

Can you see the Namdaecheon River from the café after boating?

After the boat experience, we went up to Cafe Dunchi on the second floor of the same building. It was convenient to have coffee without going elsewhere. The interior was more spacious than I expected, and its floor-to-ceiling windows looked out over the Namdaecheon River.

What drinks and desserts does the café have?

Along with coffee, there were options such as lattes and drinks made with house-made fruit syrups, plus simple desserts including bakery items and cookies. There were also drinks suitable for children, so it seemed like a reasonable place for families to stop by. Being able to rest with a drink upstairs immediately after enjoying watersports was convenient.

In what order did I enjoy the boat and coffee?

We did not sit in the café for long and took out iced coffee instead. After riding the boat, we drank it slowly while looking at the scenery around the Namdaecheon River. Focusing on driving during the boat ride, then having cool coffee after the experience, suited me well.

What stayed with me was being able to continue from a self-driven experience to a cup of coffee in one place. I felt it would suit couples or families who want to add another activity besides sightseeing by the sea in Yangyang.
