Yangyang café and boat ride with kids: Cafe Dunchi

On a Yangyang trip with a six-year-old and the child’s friends, I looked for somewhere we could have coffee and enjoy an activity too. At Cafe Dunchi (카페 둔치), above Namdaecheon Stream, we could have drinks and then go downstairs in the same building to take a boat.

Where is Cafe Dunchi, and what is parking like?

Cafe Dunchi is at 295 Ilchul-ro in Yangyang-eup. According to the original post, café hours were 10:00–21:00, with last orders at 20:30. Boat rides were available from 10:00–18:00, ending before the café closed.

The sun was not too strong on the day we visited, and a warm breeze made it a good day for boating. The parking lot was large, so parking felt less stressful. On the way into the café above Namdaecheon Stream, there were plenty of places to take photos, so we walked slowly with the children.

The children were excited at the thought of going boating. The café is on the second floor, and we could have taken our drinks onto the boat, but we decided to find seats, have our drinks first, and then do the activity.

What drinks and snacks can you choose with children?

Along with drinks, there were songi jelly, songi cookies, and several kinds of bakery items, so there was plenty to choose from. The adults ordered coffee, while the children each ordered a smoothie to suit their tastes.

Are there seats to relax while looking over Namdaecheon Stream?

On the second floor, there were indoor seats surrounded by plants and outdoor seats facing Namdaecheon Stream. The space was roomy and the view was open, letting us take a quiet break with the children.

Each child ordered a drink too, and the blueberry smoothie was especially popular. It was quite windy by the river, and blankets were available at the café.

What types of boats are available, and how much do they cost?

After finishing our drinks, we went down to the first-floor boat experience area. We chose life jackets that fit each of us, and the children carefully picked out their own too.

Two kinds of boats were listed: electric boats and hwangpo dotbae (traditional yellow-sailed boats). The prices below were listed in the original post published on Jun 10, 2026.

• Four-seat electric boat: ₩28,000 per boat for 30 minutes

• 12-seat hwangpo dotbae: ₩6,000 for children aged 13 and under, for 20 minutes

What was the electric boat ride like with a six-year-old?

There were six of us, so we took a six-seat electric boat. Before boarding, we also took photos with the excited children.

The electric boat ride lasted 30 minutes, and we started a stopwatch when we set off after everyone had boarded. The controls were simple, so once we were in an open area, the children each had a turn operating it. I remember how a child who was hesitant at first quickly got the hang of it. We also watched fish jumping from the water during the ride.

While preparing for our Yangyang trip, finding somewhere to enjoy an activity with a child was harder than I expected. Here, we could spend time resting at the café and trying a boat ourselves. The children’s experience of operating the boat was especially memorable from this trip.

Being able to have drinks with the children’s friends and go straight into the boat activity suited our family-trip schedule well. Seeing how reluctant the child was to leave, I think they would want to return on our next Yangyang trip.
