Yeonnam-dong hand-drip café: pear-like Black Moon Geisha, Central Site

In short

Central Site Yeonnam is a three-floor café in Yeonnam-dong, on Yeonhui-ro in Mapo, Seoul, known for hand-drip coffee and tiramisu. On a solo visit, the writer smelled the beans before ordering, chose a Panama Geisha Black Moon Washed #3, watched the coffee being brewed on the 1st floor and paired it with the classic tiramisu. The Black Moon drip, said to taste of ripe pear, and the espresso-soaked classic tiramisu at Central Site Yeonnam made an especially good match.

While spending some time alone in Yeonnam-dong, I came across hand-drip coffee that was so good ☕️ I just had to share it, so here's my story about the Yeonnam-dong café Central Site Yeonnam.

Central Site Yeonnam location and opening hours

Central Site Yeonnam is at 29-1 Yeonhui-ro, Mapo-gu, Seoul. It's open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays and 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekends.

The moment I walked in, the sound of the coffee machines and the smell of coffee filled the place!

How to choose hand-drip beans

At Central Site Yeonnam you can smell the beans yourself before ordering, which helps a lot if the menu alone doesn't give you a clue. The place is famous for hand-drip coffee, so I looked at the menu... and choosing was so hard, ugh ㅜㅜ Apricot, mandarin and so on... I just couldn't imagine the tastes.

But at this Yeonnam-dong café you can smell the coffee aromas!! Smelling them told me whether it was a coffee flavor I'd like, which was so nice!!! And it was fascinating how different each aroma was 😆

The coffee I chose today: Panama Geisha Black Moon Washed #3!!

You can watch the hand drip being made on the 1st floor

In one corner of the 1st floor at Central Site Yeonnam, you can watch the barista hand-brew the coffee.

They had me smell the freshly ground coffee, and the freshness was even better than the bean sniffing earlier. I came for coffee but it felt like an experience, which I loved.

I loved being able to watch my own coffee being brewed, haha. Central Site has 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors, and once you take a seat, they bring your order to you.

2nd floor: big windows with a view of trees

The 2nd floor has big windows looking out on lush green trees. The furniture was dark in color, but I liked the light coming through the windows.

3rd floor: a terrace-like space with air conditioning

The 3rd floor is a terrace-like space, and the air conditioning is strong, so even on a blazing sunny day it's perfectly comfortable, haha. On cooler days they seemed to open the windows.

How do the Black Moon Geisha drip and classic tiramisu taste?

I ordered the hand-drip Panama Geisha Black Moon Washed #3 and a classic tiramisu.

Central Site is apparently very famous for its tiramisu. There were lots of kinds, and I went with the basic classic tiramisu.

Black Moon Geisha hand-drip coffee

When the barista brings the coffee, they explain it. They said the beans come from the Black Moon farm and are roasted to taste like ripe pear! (I only remember the first and last sentences......^^;)

Introduction text for Black Moon beans

So I think I need this^^; The bean description that came with it said the following.

Black Moon is a name inspired by a very rare astronomical phenomenon, symbolizing rarity and understated elegance. Just as an unseen moon completes the deep night, the Black Moon farm makes the finest coffee on a philosophy that respects the balance of nature and time. The farm revived once-barren land through regenerative agriculture, restoring soil microbes and the forest ecosystem, and puts nature's own vitality into its coffee.

Reading it slowly and then drinking, I could taste even more richness. There are so many beans, so please smell them before you choose!

Cross-section of classic tiramisu soaked in espresso

In the classic tiramisu, the sponge soaked moistly in espresso and the smooth, rich cream go together so well that I really.... kept eating it ㅜㅜ Together with the warm hand-drip coffee, the harmony of flavors was wonderful! If you're looking for a great coffee spot in Yeonnam-dong, I recommend Central Site Yeonnam!
