Seoul Station Japanese restaurant, gyukatsu lunch for three: Ichigyu

I had to grab a meal near Seoul Station and heard there was a great gyukatsu (breaded pork/beef cutlet) spot, so I went to check it out! This is "Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch." Let me walk you through it 😋

Where is Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch and how do you get there?

Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch is in the basement of the LG Seoul Station Building, right across from Seoul Station! Go into the building and take the escalator down — it's in the basement.

Looks super convenient for office workers!! (There are also stairs outside the building.)

What is the restaurant like inside?

Ichigyu has a clean, tidy vibe! Walking in, the interior was really neat, which I loved. The tables are spaced well apart and it feels comfortable — great for a work lunch!

What is on the menu at Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch?

Here's the menu. Their signature dishes are gyukatsu and steki, plus they have hamburg omurice, steki-don (steak over rice), hot-plate chapsteak, and Japanese-style curry.

What three of us ordered

While we waited after ordering, they brought out rice for three — warm and steaming.

Gyukatsu, 19,500 won: searing beef on the hot stone plate

First up was the gyukatsu! The second it hit the table, the visual alone was insane. The outside is coated in breadcrumbs and fried until totally crispy, while the inside shows off bright red meat with crazy marbling. Yeah,, this famous Seoul Station spot has meat that looks different from the get-go.

They gave us really good butter, and grilling it up generously with butter doubled the flavor, for real!!!

The owner lights the burner and places a piece of gyukatsu onto the sizzling-hot stone plate. That sizzling sound never gets old. It's completely tender, and with a dab of fresh wasabi plus the sauce and doenjang soup (fermented soybean soup) they served alongside, I could eat it forever, haha.

Steki, 19,500 won: thick-cut Korean beef

Second was the steki! The meat came out sliced extra thick and hefty — even lifting it with chopsticks felt heavy. There wasn't a single tough part; it was super tender and delicious Korean beef, hahaha.

Hamburg omurice, 17,000 won

Last up, hamburg omurice. Obviously, being Korean, you've gotta round it out with carbs!! But this hamburg omurice was seriously amazing♥ A soft, jiggly half-cooked omelet is draped right over the rice.

There's also a generous amount of sauce, so you can pour it on without holding back!

Whoa. Inside the omurice there's a hamburg steak patty, and it's genuinely delicious, haha. Not dry at all, and it pairs so well with the omelet!!

Free shrimp tempura for a receipt review

At Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch, if you leave a receipt review before your meal, they give you free shrimp tempura! No reason not to.
