Seoul Station Exit 8 gyukatsu grilled medium-rare: Furato Shokudo

In short

Furato Shokudo Seoul Square Direct Store is a Japanese gyukatsu (breaded beef cutlet) restaurant on basement level 1 of Seoul Square in Jung-gu, Seoul, connected to the Seoul Station subway passage on the Exit 8 side. At lunch the writer ordered gyukatsu and grilled it slice by slice to medium-rare on a personal tabletop grill, melting Isigny butter alongside for extra richness. The grill runs hot so the beef cooks fast, and anyone with a big appetite should go for the gyukatsu double or extra meat.

Went out for lunch... came here. Straight up, straight up, straight up, straight up.

Where is Furato Shokudo Seoul Square, and how do you walk there from Seoul Station?

Ta-da.

Furato Shokudo is on the basement 1st floor of Seoul Square! It's right in front of Seoul Station, and it's even connected to the Seoul Station subway passage (Exit 8 side), so it's really convenient haha. They're also running a Naver Pay points event until September 30th. For 5,000 won, this event feels serious. Make sure to join and grab the benefit haha.

Inside Furato Shokudo Seoul Square: the room and how long you wait at lunch

The inside of Furato Shokudo Seoul Square Direct Store is spacious with plenty of seats. But since it's such a popular spot, it's always crowded... and since it's grill-your-own food, the table turnover feels a bit slow too. I'd recommend booking ahead on Naver Reservation or using Catch Table to avoid the lunch peak if your schedule allows...

What's on the menu at Furato Shokudo Seoul Square?

Menu photos posted outside the restaurant

Drooling while looking at the menu photos outside the restaurant... that curry has me so curious... During lunch it's packed with office workers from the area, so I'd recommend using the Catch Table remote waitlist haha.

Ordering gyukatsu: how the personal tabletop grill works

I ordered the gyukatsu... delicious gyukatsu~~~ Gyukatsu is beef coated in breadcrumbs and lightly fried on the outside only, then you grill it piece by piece yourself on a personal grill — such a delicious dish. I really wanted a Kirin draft beer but held back since it was lunch... Grilling gyukatsu with a glass of Kirin draft would be so, so good.

There's also a variety of receipt review event items (drink / karaage / onsen tamago / Isigny butter), and you can participate separately on Naver, Kakao, and Google Maps, so join in and enjoy a hearty, delicious meal haha. While waiting for the gyukatsu, I carefully read through the instructions for grilling it deliciously.

Instructions for grilling gyukatsu deliciously

Grilling gyukatsu medium-rare, slice by slice

It's here. My gyukatsu... Even when I grill regular meat (beef, lamb, pork), I really love medium to medium-rare. Even when I go eat pork with people, I often get asked why I under-cook it so much, but meat!! Isn't it tastier a bit underdone? This is the reason I love gyukatsu... this is the reason I became a gyukatsu lover!!

Right, right, right — I get to grill my meat exactly the way I want. > <

Is the Isigny butter add-on worth it with gyukatsu?

I'm going to melt an Isigny butter completely and grill with it too. Chop... that nutty buttery smell... melting away.

Let's grill it up. Sizzle... chap chap... yum. Grilling it with melted butter like this made both the smell and the flavor even better!! If you're going with two people, I recommend adding a butter to share while grilling~~

Three sauces, grill heat and portion size at Furato Shokudo

That crispy exterior of the gyukatsu drives me crazy. Grill each piece carefully, dab a little wasabi on top, and eat it with rice. The sauces are salt / soy sauce / chili sauce — just take turns dipping into each one and it's great...

Whenever I go eat gyukatsu, nothing's more annoying than the grill flame being weak the whole time so it cooks slowly and badly, or dying out too fast — but here the flame was strong so everything cooked quickly and well haha. Good. The portion looked small at first, but eating through it, it was actually fine!! Still, if you want to eat a lot, I'd recommend ordering the gyukatsu double or adding extra meat. haha.

When Furato Shokudo Seoul Square is worth the trip

  • When you want delicious meat near Seoul Station!!
  • When you want a simple meat meal alone without the hassle!!
  • When you and a friend want to each enjoy a neat single-dish meal...

I highly recommend the gyukatsu at Furato Shokudo... Next time I want to try the steki set and the curry too!!! Ate so well~~
