Daegu mackerel restaurant with no wait at opening: Geumdeungeo
In short
Geumdeungeo Deulanguil Main Branch is a wood-fired grilled mackerel restaurant on Deulan-ro in Suseong-gu, Daegu. Arriving right at opening time with her mother and husband, the writer waited not at all, ordered the grilled mackerel for three plus a cockle salad add-on for 9,000 won, and found the parking tower, elevator and room seating easy when bringing an elder. Among the side dishes, the green onion kimchi paired best with the mackerel, making Geumdeungeo a comfortable family meal in Daegu.

Whenever I head toward Suseong Lake or Deulanguil to eat, there are so many restaurants that I always end up wondering, wait, which one is actually good? This time I went with my mother and husband to Geumdeungeo Deulanguil Main Branch (금등어 들안길 본점) on Deulanguil, and the food turned out even better than expected, plus the restaurant itself was really comfortable — we left very satisfied :)
Especially when you're eating with parents, parking and how easy it is to get around actually matter a lot. This place was comfortable on that front too, so I wanted to share it for anyone looking for a Daegu family meal spot 🤍

Parking in Deulanguil: the tower at Geumdeungeo
Geumdeungeo Deulanguil Main Branch has its own parking tower, so even driving there I barely had to worry about parking. Deulanguil has a lot of restaurants and some spots have tricky parking, so having a parking tower was genuinely convenient.

There's also an elevator, which seemed great for visiting with elders who might find stairs inconvenient. When you're eating out with parents, the food matters but these little conveniences matter too — and this place had that covered 👍
Inside Geumdeungeo: room seating and apricot juice after the meal

The moment I stepped out of the elevator, something caught my eye — apricot juice and coffee set up for dessert. I thought it was just something to drink after the meal, but it was also set up so you could take a cup to go, and I thought, oh, that's genuinely thoughtful haha. Getting to grab coffee on the way out made even the ending of the meal feel nice ☕️

We visited right at opening time, so there was no wait at all — we ordered at the counter and were shown straight to our seats.

The restaurant overall felt clean, and besides regular tables there were room-style spaces too, which seemed great for family meals or bigger groups. That's when I thought this place would really work as a Daegu family meal spot. Especially when dining with parents, you tend to look for somewhere a bit calmer than a noisy hall, so having rooms was a plus.
Wood-fired grilled mackerel for three, plus cockle salad

We ordered the wood-fired grilled mackerel for three, adding cockle salad (꼬막무침) for 9,000 won.

Not long after sitting down, the banchan (side dishes) and doenjang stew arrived first, and shortly after that the rice and grilled mackerel came out too.

The mackerel looked satisfying right from the first glance — plump, with the flesh packed full. Maybe because it's grilled over a wood fire, the outside was nicely browned while the inside stayed moist and well-cooked, and it was delicious 🤍 Grilled fish can sometimes end up dry, but this was moist enough to go really well with rice.

Nuruk salt and green onion kimchi with the mackerel
On one side of the mackerel came nuruk salt (누룩소금, a fermented rice-yeast salt) — dipping the fish in it lightly added a savory saltiness that went really well with rice. It's tasty plain too, but I'd recommend trying it dipped in the nuruk salt with rice!
Personally, among the banchan, the green onion kimchi (쪽파김치) was the best! The seasoning was so good that I kept eating it together with the mackerel haha. A piece of mackerel topped with green onion kimchi and a spoonful of rice is a really great combination. If you visit Geumdeungeo, definitely try the green onion kimchi with your meal 🤍

There's also a self-serve bar toward the back of the restaurant, so you could easily grab more of any banchan you ran low on. Instead of piling everything on the table from the start, being able to get just what you need as you eat was convenient too.
Final verdict on Geumdeungeo Deulanguil Main Branch ✨
Visiting this time with my mother and husband, we had an overall pretty satisfying meal. Most of all, having the parking tower and elevator made it easy to visit with elders, and the clean interior plus the room-style spaces made it a great fit for a family meal.
The food was good too — the mackerel was plump and moist, and with the banchan and doenjang stew alongside, it felt like a hearty, well-rounded meal. If you're looking for a Deulanguil restaurant to try around Suseong Lake or Deulanguil, this one is worth a visit 👍👍
It would especially suit anyone looking for a restaurant to take their parents to, or a comfortable Daegu family meal spot ◡̈ Next time I have a family meal planned around Deulanguil, this is somewhere I'd want to visit again 🤍
