Where is Geumdeungeo Deulanguil Main Branch, and is there parking?
Geumdeungeo Deulanguil Main Branch is at 57 Deulan-ro, 2nd floor, Suseong-gu, Daegu, right in the middle of the Deulanguil food street, so it was really easy to find. It's open daily from 11:00 to 21:20, with a break time from 15:30 to 17:00.
The exterior already gives off a sense of scale and cleanliness, and there's a spacious dedicated parking lot, which made it really convenient to visit by car. Around Deulanguil, parking is usually the first worry, but here there's someone directing cars and plenty of space, so even less confident drivers should be able to come comfortably.
How ordering at the entrance works at Geumdeungeo
Geumdeungeo Deulanguil Main Branch has you order right as you walk in. You look at the menu, order, and then get shown to a table. It's a slightly unusual way to enter, but because you order so quickly, the food seems to come out fast too.

A grilled fish restaurant with no fishy smell inside
The moment I stepped inside, the clean, modern interior caught my eye. With grilled fish restaurants, there's usually a bit of a bias that the place will smell fishy or the floor will feel sticky, but Geumdeungeo was nothing but pleasant.
It felt like walking into an upscale Korean set-meal restaurant, so I thought it would be perfect for bringing your parents along or treating someone special.

There's a tablet at each table, but it's only for ordering extra menu items.
Geumdeungeo's banchan spread, from black sesame lotus root to green onion kimchi
Not long after we sat down, the table started filling up with neatly arranged banchan (side dishes).

You could feel the quality from the basic spread alone — crunchy lotus root salad tossed in nutty black sesame sauce, glossy japchae (stir-fried glass noodles), well-fermented spicy green onion kimchi, fresh salad and seaweed, and savory namul (seasoned vegetables) and kimchi of all kinds. Every single side dish felt made with care. None of it was too salty, so it was clean-tasting, and I nearly filled up on banchan before the grilled fish even arrived.

Whatever banchan you run low on, you can freely grab more from the self-serve bar, which meant I could enjoy as much as I wanted without feeling awkward about it. The self-serve bar itself was also kept very hygienic and clean.
Nuruk-salt-cured wood-fired mackerel, two servings

The wood-fired mackerel, the main dish we'd been waiting for, came out first. Grilled to a golden brown in a hot wood-fired oven, the outside was crispy while the inside stayed juicy. Oil glistened on the surface with a faint smoky aroma drifting up — just the look of it made my mouth water. The flesh was so thick that it was fun to tear off big bites with my chopsticks.

I'm pretty sensitive to fishy smells, but there wasn't a trace of it — only a nutty, clean flavor filled my mouth. It was the textbook definition of crispy outside, moist inside; even the skin was grilled crisp all the way through. Dipped lightly in the nuruk salt and put on top of rice, it was the perfect rice thief that didn't need any other side dish.
Fire-charred spicy pork stir-fry and doenjang stew

The spicy gochujang pork stir-fry we ordered alongside the grilled fish was also a real treat. The pork, well coated in a red sauce, came topped neatly with shredded perilla leaves, sesame seeds, and red chili — appetizing just to look at. The meat had no gamey smell at all, was chewy yet tender, and the faint smoky char blended with a mild sweet-and-spicy sauce that paired fantastically with the grilled mackerel.

A savory doenjang (soybean paste) stew served alongside kept cleansing the palate in between bites, so I kept going back for more. The harmony between the main wood-fired mackerel, the pork stir-fry, and the neat banchan was so good that even though I usually can't finish a whole bowl of rice, here I actually considered getting an extra serving.
Dessert at Geumdeungeo: gangjeong and coffee

There's gangjeong, coffee, and drinks prepared for dessert, so the palate cleanse at the end was perfect too.

Overall, from the quality of the food to the clean space and friendly service, it was a flawless meal with nothing lacking. If you're near Suseong-gu's Deulanguil looking for a neat, delicious, set-meal-style spread of grilled fish, I'd strongly recommend visiting Geumdeungeo Deulanguil Main Branch :)
