Today I'm sharing a place I went to eat with my parents, who came to visit Gumi!

Irojeong Gumi Geumosan Direct Branch is a hanjeongsik (Korean set-meal) and loach soup restaurant at 32 Bakjeonghui-ro, Gumi-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do. Taking your parents out to eat means worrying about everything from parking to the food to the vibe of the place — and this time I found Irojeong while searching for a good hanjeongsik restaurant in Gumi!

We visited around 11:30am on a Sunday, and being the weekend, there were already quite a lot of guests?? Luckily there's a large parking lot right in front of the restaurant, so I didn't have to worry about parking while bringing my parents !!!

We visited around 11:30am on Sunday and put our name on the Tabling waitlist — we got number 22! About 10 teams ahead of us?

Irojeong has a pretty spacious waiting room, so it wasn't uncomfortable while we waited! What I especially liked was how many things there were to use while waiting — there were drinks like sikhye, sujeonggwa, and coffee, plus traditional snacks, so we could nibble on something simple while we waited !!

They even had ice cups so you could keep your drink cold, which was such a thoughtful touch haha? Takeaway after the meal is possible too! Even my dad, who hates waiting, said the time didn't feel that boring since the waiting room was spacious, clean, and had various things to eat haha

The restaurant was clean overall and the staff were friendly, so we left in a good mood after eating! Especially when visiting with parents, you end up paying attention not just to the taste of the food but also to the parking, the waiting area, and how clean the place is — and this was a comfortable place on all those fronts haha

They also had baby chairs for babies and a tidy play area for kids 👍🏻

What's on the self-serve bar at Irojeong

Another thing I really liked about Irojeong was the self-serve bar. There was a variety of banchan (side dishes) ready to go, so you could easily grab more of whatever you ran short on, and there was also fruit for dessert and thin noodles to add to the loach soup haha

Best of all, rice was unlimited refill too, so it was a hearty, filling meal! When you take your parents out, you always worry a little about whether there's enough food or side dishes, but here you could just help yourself to as much as you needed. I also love adding noodles to loach soup, and being able to grab them from the self-serve bar meant I could enjoy it just how I like it haha

What comes in the pork suyuk and mackerel loach soup set for three?

That day we ordered the boneless mackerel loach soup set for 3! Since we were visiting with my parents, I picked a menu where we could taste a bunch of different dishes at once, and the spread turned out to be really substantial?

Fried loach served as a standard side dish

The boiled pork (suyuk) was cooked tender and soft ?? And personally, what left an impression on me was the fried loach! It's been a while since I saw fried loach served as a side dish at a loach soup restaurant lol Fried loach as one of the basic banchan! It was crispy and went really well alongside the soup, and my parents enjoyed it too.
