These days, with the chilly mornings and evenings, I find myself craving warm, filling food instead of anything too spicy or heavy. So I headed to Irojeong Gumi Geumosan Direct Branch, a Gumi favorite, for some black goat soup served in a piping hot stone bowl.
Where is Irojeong Gumi Geumosan Direct Branch, and is there parking?
Irojeong Gumi Geumosan Direct Branch is at 32 Park Chung-hee-ro, Gumi, Gyeongbuk, South Korea, near Gumi Sangmo High School. It's open 11:00–21:00, with a break time from 15:30–17:00 and last order at 20:10.

This hanjeongsik (Korean set-meal) restaurant sits near Gumi Sangmo High School — last time I passed by it was a baby octopus place, but now it's Irojeong. There's a parking lot right in front, which makes it convenient. We visited in the early evening and the lot was already nearly full.
How long is the wait at Irojeong in the early evening?
Even in the early evening, there was a wait at Irojeong. We had 11 teams ahead of us and waited about 30 minutes, so keep that in mind. Seeing the packed parking lot, I had a feeling this might happen — and sure enough. Don't just wait around; make sure to register on the waitlist!!

As a restaurant known for its waits, Irojeong has a spacious and clean waiting area.

The waiting area has water, coffee, sujeonggwa (cinnamon-persimmon punch), sweet pumpkin sikhye (rice punch), and gangjeong (sweet rice snack) — a nice spot for a cup of tea while waiting, or dessert after your meal.

What is the dining room at Irojeong like?
The interior has that calm, tidy feel typical of a hanjeongsik restaurant, making it a good spot for family meals or dining with elders. Fittingly, many of the other guests were families or older diners.

With a variety of warming, hearty menu items — black goat, loach soup, grilled mackerel, seafood pancake and more — it's also a good place to bring kids.

What's on the self-serve side dish bar?
Irojeong's self-serve corner is well stocked — various side dishes, minced garlic and chili, and even rice. There's also watermelon and Shine Muscat grapes for dessert, and the grapes were genuinely delicious.

The basic side dishes were also well done. Since we ordered the set menu, loach fritters and sweet potato fritters came along with it too.
The japchae (stir-fried glass noodles), salad, pickled wood ear mushrooms, and loach fritters were each delicious enough to eat on their own with rice and sides.

How does the wild ginseng black goat set for two taste?
The loach soup arrived piping hot in a stone bowl — just looking at it warmed me up.
Taking a spoonful of the thick broth, it was rich but not heavy, clean-tasting, and left me feeling warm all over.

Adding thin noodles from the self-serve corner was a treat too — the thick broth soaked right into the noodles.

The meat wasn't dry at all — it was tender, a texture that's easy for elders to enjoy too.

Having both the black goat soup and the black goat suyuk (boiled meat) felt like a proper health boost.

With wild ginseng root and mushrooms added in, it truly felt like a health-boosting dish.
We added rice to the black goat soup too, for a really filling meal.

Dessert after the meal: sikhye and rice sweets
The Shine Muscat grapes at the self-serve corner were genuinely delicious!! They also sell them at the counter. After eating our fill, we topped it off with sikhye and gangjeong dessert in the waiting area.
