📍 Parking There's a private lot, plus roadside parking in front of and behind the building, so it's convenient if you're driving.

It's right across from Iho Tewoo Beach, so you can pair the meal with a beach walk afterward. A lot of people were taking photos right out front!

The beach is famous for sunsets, so if you go in the evening you get a great meal and a view too.

The signature dish is the wood-fired grilled mackerel set. Besides that, there are also Atka mackerel, Spanish mackerel, and hairtail grilled sets, so you can pick whichever fish you like.

They say it's grilled in a wood-fired oven over 500 degrees, and maybe that's why the outside was crisp and the inside stayed moist.

When I grill fish at home I end up avoiding it because of the smell and oil splatter,,. Here I got to eat properly grilled fish without any of that hassle, which was so nice.

We ordered the mackerel set for three plus a wood-fired pizza.

The mackerel set for 3: how it tasted

Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Bansang's mackerel set comes with one whole mackerel, basic side dishes, lettuce wraps, seaweed soup, ssamjang (dipping sauce), fresh wasabi, and a bowl of rice. If you order sets matching your headcount, the rice is unlimited.

The mackerel set was genuinely packed!! One whole mackerel with basic side dishes, lettuce wraps, seaweed soup, ssamjang, fresh wasabi, and rice all together. It's exactly the kind of spread that fills you up for one solid meal.

Being grilled over the wood-fired oven, the outside was crackly and salty in the best way. The skin especially was extra crisp, while the flesh underneath was savory and moist, and I kept shoveling in rice with it.

But honestly, I was unexpectedly won over by the chonggak kimchi (whole radish kimchi). It's genuinely delicious, and there's a self-serve corner so you can refill as much as you want.

I'm the type who thinks a set meal lives or dies by its side dishes, but I never expected a single side dish to have me reaching for it this much haha.

Sungnyung and the self-serve fried-egg station

Something unique here — they have sungnyung (scorched rice tea) set out separately. I love sungnyung, so I scooped up mostly the broth part and drank it, and it felt like it completely cured the hangover from the night before, haha, so good.

And something fun — there's a self-serve fried egg corner. We used it to make an egg roll lol. These little playful touches seem like they'd make it even more fun with kids.

Was the wood-fired pizza worth adding?

Honestly, the wood-fired pizza at Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Bansang isn't on the level of a dedicated pizza place. But it had a nice hint of that wood-fired aroma and savory cheese, which was plenty as a side to the grilled fish.

We had two pizza fanatics in our group, so we ordered the wood-fired pizza too. Honestly, since this is a mackerel restaurant, it's not on the level of a specialty pizza place. (Which is fair, obviously.)

But there was a nice whiff of that wood-fired smoke, and the cheese — maybe they used a good one — had a pretty solid savory flavor.

If you feel like grilled fish alone isn't quite enough, or you're going with kids and want pizza on the side too, ordering one seems like a good call.
