The Sunsu Bread (더순수브레드) in Chimsan-dong, Daegu, is the bakery I found after visiting almost every vegan bakery in Daegu and online, trying to find bread my daughter could eat. As I've mentioned in other posts, my daughter has anaphylaxis to milk, nuts and more, which can be life-threatening.

Since she was a baby she has been rushed to the ER many times, I've run down the street carrying her, and she has been hospitalized quite often. Wanting to feed her bread, I bought from nearly every vegan bakery in Daegu and online. And the one I found among them is The Sunsu Bread in Chimsan-dong, Daegu.

Is The Sunsu Bread's vegan bread better than regular bread?

The Sunsu Bread's vegan bread is softer and tastier than regular bread. Some places give up on taste just because it's vegan, but The Sunsu Bread doesn't.

A new vegan bakery opened where we used to live and had chocolate bread, so I bought it for my daughter, and she gagged..

The Sunsu Bread is the best milk-free, egg-free bread I've ever eaten, and it tastes far more premium than most big bakery chains. I once bought bagels from a neighborhood bagel shop that makes proper bagels, tasty even without milk, and even those weren't as good as The Sunsu Bread. Yes, I've been a fan for quite a while.

The Sunsu Bread originally started in Kolon Haneulchae in Chilseong-dong, Buk-gu, Daegu, and a few years ago moved to the Chimsan Prugio shopping arcade, where it keeps going. I've been going since I briefly lived in Gumi, so that says it all, right? The bread is seriously delicious.

Among the vegan breads sold online and offline, some honestly seemed like they'd been left out at room temperature for days. The Sunsu Bread isn't like that. Baking and selling on the same day is of course the basic rule, but maybe because the dough is made with rice flour and raw cane sugar (wondang) and aged with natural sourdough, it's really moist and soft.

Why Naver reservations work well at The Sunsu Bread

The bread sells out early at The Sunsu Bread, so it's best to reserve ahead through Naver. There's an unbelievable variety for vegan bread, but see how many are already gone even though I went at 3 p.m.? They also deliver, so I especially recommend a Naver reservation.

How varied is The Sunsu Bread's vegan bread?

The Sunsu Bread makes mocha buns, pound cake, and now even fruit whipped cream cake, all vegan. Vegan bread usually means little more than sandwich loaves and red bean buns, but here even the fruit whipped cream (obviously not made from milk ^^;) is vegan.

That's how my daughter became a bread lover who happily eats garlic rusks, pound cake, salt bread and more.

New vegan gluten-free cake and sugar-free low-carb cake

The Sunsu Bread has newly launched a vegan gluten-free cake and a sugar-free low-carb cake. That alone made me so happy, and hearing such good news from a bakery that aims for healthy, tasty bread, I just said wow!

At her birthday parties, my daughter has always watched only her friends eat the cake. My parents would share a single slice just to taste it. (Both of them have to manage their blood sugar.)

On her birthdays my daughter used to cut into a white rice cake (baekseolgi). Now she can eat a whipped cream fruit cake that looks just like her friends', and my parents can each have a slice of low-sugar cake, which makes me really happy. The Sunsu Bread launched a sugar-free, low-carb cake that people watching their sugar or aiming for healthy food can enjoy freely.. should we call it Daegu's best diabetic cake spot?

They say the sugar-free low-carb cake has almost no risk of blood sugar spikes. My daughter can look after her health with the vegan gluten-free fresh fruit cake, and my parents with the sugar-free low-carb cake. The Sunsu Bread is amazing!!!

Cake pickup day and the owner's kindness

Today I finally went to The Sunsu Bread to pick up the cake..

Actually, The Sunsu Bread recruited reviewers to promote the sugar-free low-carb cake, and it turns out I had applied for the vegan cake.. 😱😱😱 But since I'd bought vegan bread there from time to time, the owner turned a blind eye and switched me to the vegan cake..

I was swept away by emotion today.. once for the owner's kindness, and twice because it's my daughter's first cake today,,

How did The Sunsu Bread's vegan fresh fruit cake taste?

The sponge of The Sunsu Bread's vegan fresh fruit cake is moister and denser than regular cake, and the cream is firmer and nuttier than whipped cream. There's a ton of gold kiwi, big fresh blueberries and Shine Muscat grapes, not just on top but inside too.

Me waiting for my daughter, and my daughter rushing over right after school.. I wonder which of us was happier~ 💗💗💗 We lit the candles together and I let her do her first cake cutting.

At first she couldn't cut it well, and I wondered, is it because it's her first time? I almost shed a tear, but when I tried cutting it myself, wow,, the sponge is top quality.. What I mean is, it's a bit moister and denser than regular cake.

I guess, unlike milk-based whipped cream, there must be a trick to keep it from melting into the sponge? That's just my own guess. The vegan cake is substantial, and the cream was honestly firmer and nuttier than real whipped cream. The pricey gold kiwi, big fresh blueberries and Shine Muscat aren't only on top; there's lots of fruit inside too.

My daughter said, "So this is what whipped cream tastes like?" and told me it was sweet and so delicious.. 😭😭😭 To be more honest, it's a little nuttier than whipped cream. You can taste the nuttiness of expensive bottled soy milk, along with the rich, sweet, soft flavor you think of when you think whipped cream.

If you have a child who can't have milk or eggs like my daughter, please do try The Sunsu Bread. She suffers from even a single drop of milk, yet she ate 2.5 slices of cake and was totally fine, which makes me so happy. My heart is dancing like this, I just wanted you to know.

Does The Sunsu Bread deliver yogurt bowls and ice cream too?

The Sunsu Bread doesn't only do low-sugar (vegan) bread: through Greek Angel & Zero Factory you can also get healthy yogurt (açaí) bowls, ice cream and drinks by delivery. They were new to me, but both turned out to be shops selling healthy Greek yogurt and yogurt ice cream. The Sunsu Bread, which spreads healthy food in so many ways, deserves praise.

A longtime regular's overall review of The Sunsu Bread

As someone who has eaten a lot of vegan bread in Daegu and Gyeongbuk, I haven't yet found another place that matches The Sunsu Bread for softness beyond regular bread, variety and taste. Receiving sponsorship while blogging is a double-edged sword, but I try to be as honest as I can.

As a long-time customer in particular, I can vouch for the good ingredients and taste. We connected because of my child's allergies, but if you want healthy bread, The Sunsu Bread is the answer.
