Glass film remover on cloudy shower glass: AutoGrooming Clean View

Glass film remover is a fairly familiar item among car care products. This time, though, I tried something a little different — using a car glass film remover on my bathroom shower glass.

At first even I thought, "Wait, you're using this in the bathroom?" haha. But to cut to the conclusion, if you've been stressed out by cloudy shower glass, this method is worth a look.

Why shower glass stays cloudy no matter how much you wipe it

This is my shower stall. Since it's used with water every day, the whole glass panel looked hazy and the water spots were pretty noticeable.

After showering especially, water droplets would stay on the glass, and over time the glass itself started looking blurry. Even in photos, the tiles behind it weren't clear at all. Cleaning it now and then with bathroom detergent helped a bit, but once it dried it would go cloudy again — which bugged me more than I expected.

What is AutoGrooming Clean View glass film remover?

The product I used is AutoGrooming Clean View glass film remover.

As the name suggests, it's originally made to remove film buildup on car windshields. This time, instead of a car, I used it to clean the shower glass at home.

The product is 120g, and it comes with a dedicated towel along with the remover, so it was convenient not having to prep separate cleaning tools.

It's small enough to fit in one hand, so storage wasn't a hassle either.

Wet the glass first: the step that matters most

This turned out to be the most important part of the whole process. I worked while the glass was wet.

I wet the entire shower glass thoroughly, then applied Clean View film remover onto the glass surface. At first, the liquid feels like it's just sliding right off the glass.

Do you need to scrub hard? No

Next, I rubbed the glass surface with the included dedicated towel.

The instructions say to rub in one direction, repeating 4–5 times. I did something similar, dividing the wide surface into sections and rubbing each a few times. At first the solution felt like it was just sliding around on top of the glass, but as I kept rubbing, at some point it started to feel like it was gripping onto the glass surface. That transition was kind of fun to watch, haha.

When the remover turns white, the feel changes

As you keep rubbing the remover in, the glass gets covered in white. Looking at the photo alone, you might think, "Wait, isn't this making it even cloudier?" haha. But that's not the end — you still need to rinse it thoroughly with water at the end. Rather than trying to finish the whole area at once, I found it much easier to work section by section.

Finish by rinsing thoroughly with water

After the rubbing was done, I used the shower head to rinse the glass surface thoroughly. It's better to use plenty of water so no residue is left behind. And it was around this point that I started to notice the difference compared to before.

At first, the tiles and shower head behind the glass looked hazy — after the treatment, everything behind the glass was much clearer.

Before and after: how much clearer was the shower glass?

Honestly, bathroom glass water spots don't usually change dramatically with a bit of wiping, so I didn't expect much going in. But comparing it to the before photos, the hazy, filmy feeling was clearly reduced.

The part that had looked whitish and cloudy all over cleaned up nicely, and the whole shower stall ended up looking a bit cleaner overall. It wasn't quite like new glass, more like the cloudy buildup that had accumulated over time got cleared away. Even just that much was pretty satisfying.

The included microfiber towel makes it easier

One mildly annoying thing about cleaning products is having to prep a separate scrubber or towel. Clean View film remover comes with its own dedicated microfiber towel.

I could use it right out of the box, and the towel size was plenty big enough for a wide area like shower glass. What I liked most was that it's rubbed on with a towel rather than scrubbed with a rough sponge.

Other places to try Clean View besides the shower stall

I used it on the shower stall this time, but bathrooms have more glass surfaces prone to water-spot haze than you'd think. It seems worth trying on things like shower glass or bathroom mirrors that are frequently exposed to water. That said, since the product itself is designed for car glass film removal, it's worth checking the labeled usage and precautions before use.

Is AutoGrooming Clean View worth it on home glass?

Using a film remover meant for cars on my home bathroom's shower glass felt a little unexpected at first. But after actually doing it, the process was simpler than I thought, and for a case like mine, where the shower glass had been bugging me with its haze, I could actually see the before-and-after difference.

• Rinse thoroughly with water
