Daegu Korean restaurant for squid stir-fry: Banwoldang Bujasikdang

In short

Banwoldang Bujasikdang is a Korean restaurant in Jung-gu, Daegu, serving squid stir-fry with cheongguk doenjang soup. After joining the waitlist at 12:30, we sat down at 1:00 for two portions of regular-spice squid stir-fry, bibimbap, and fried rice. Verdict: a deeply satisfying, clean-your-plate meal.

Today I’m introducing a place I’ve been back to again and again and again! There’s always a wait, but still...!!! It’s the place I happily wait for and eat at: Bujasikdang! ✨

Getting to Banwoldang Bujasikdang and parking

Directions to Banwoldang Bujasikdang

If you come out of exits 19–23 at Banwoldang Station, it takes just 5–10 minutes on foot! If you drive, there’s space for four or five cars in front of the restaurant :-)

It’s on the first floor, and the entrance is the door on the right.

How does the waitlist work?

Restaurant waitlist information

Go inside, put your name on the tabling waitlist, then wait on the chairs set up outside, haha.

💡 The woman behind me didn’t know and just sat down to wait ㅠㅠㅠ You can’t just sit down as soon as you arrive!!!! Join the tabling waitlist, then sit down!! ✔️ Please check the break time too!

Restaurant last-order information

Last orders are at 14:45, so I think they may stop taking names for the waitlist by 14:00! If you’re planning to visit around then, I recommend checking the Catchtable app before you come!!

Takeout is available too, but the minimum is two portions! You could have a generous feast at home, haha.

A look inside after the lunchtime wait

We joined the waitlist at 12:30 and were seated at 1:00 :-)

Restaurant interior at lunchtime

It was packed with people both inside and outside.... haha. There was such a wide age range too, from people in their 30s through their 50s and 60s.

Self-serve wrap vegetable station

The wrap vegetables are self-serve, so I came to get some!

Self-serve lettuce for wraps

So much fresh lettuce! 🥬

Fresh chili peppers and ssamjang

Fresh chili peppers and ssamjang (savory soybean dipping paste), nice and neat!

Aprons prepared for dining

We got our aprons ready and placed our order, haha.

A full table of squid stir-fry for two and cheongguk doenjang soup

What we ordered

  • Squid stir-fry for 2
  • 1 fried rice (with a bowl of rice)
  • 1 bowl of rice
Full squid stir-fry order

Once we ordered, the side dishes arrived. Simple, but every single one was seasoned so well.

Side dishes and fried burdock

Especially these fried burdock strips! My dining buddy said they were so good and asked me to make them at home;; Is that even possible...? 🤔 Hahaha. Anyway, even to me, the fried burdock was the real kick!

Country-style cheongguk doenjang soup

Here’s the cheongguk doenjang soup ✨ This, this is seriously such a rice thief,,, 🍚 Honestly, after having this, I thought I wouldn’t even need the dishes that came after, hahahahaha. It’s been getting chilly lately, and I keep thinking about it ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ

Buja bibimbap

Buja bibimbap with meat garnish

This is Buja bibimbap, topped with a meat garnish! My dining buddy said this cheongguk doenjang was the key and poured in a spoonful, then mixed, mixed, mixed it all up, hahaha.

Regular-spice squid stir-fry for two

Main squid stir-fry for two

Finally, the main dish came out!!! 🦑🦑

Regular-spice squid stir-fry

✔️ You can choose the spice level, and we chose regular. The gochujang (red chili paste) looks red and spicy, but not at all! It’s just pleasantly spicy, haha.

Large pieces of squid stir-fry

Look at the size of those plump squid pieces!!!! 🦑 It’s loaded with huge chunks of squid!

Large vegetables in squid stir-fry

The vegetables are huge too! I put a big piece of squid on the Buja bibimbap and took a giant bite! Then I wrapped some in the lettuce we brought over ourselves too 🦑🤤

Scoop up a heaping spoonful like this,

Squid stir-fry on bibimbap

then mix it into the bibimbap, and it’s ridiculously delicious-!!!!

Bibimbap with side dishes and squid stir-fry

So my dining buddy put all the bean sprouts, seasoned seaweed stems, and radish from the side dishes into a bowl of rice, piled on loads of squid stir-fry, and mixed, mixed 🥣😋😋

A mixed bite of squid stir-fry

Kyaaaah, this is the good stuff~!~!~! We seriously scraped our plates clean 🤤 From the sides to the soup and the squid stir-fry, we finished every last bit 🤤 It had been so long since my dining buddy and I ate at full speed without saying a single word 😂

For anyone visiting Dongseong-ro and craving Korean food! I can confidently recommend this place. Go have a hearty Korean set meal 😋✨
