Daegu Korean restaurant with grilled mackerel banchan: Haenyeo Sotbap
In short
Haenyeo Sotbap Suseong Direct Store (해녀솥밥 수성직영점) is a sotbap (hot pot rice) restaurant on the first floor of the Leaders Building on Cheongsu-ro, near Suseong Lake in Daegu. The writer came with her mother for Wando abalone sotbap (23,000 won) and Unyang-style bulgogi sotbap (20,000 won), with mushroom tangsuyuk (sweet and sour fritters) and grilled mackerel arriving as standard side dishes, and used Catch Table's remote waitlist to walk straight into a private room. Between the building parking and the slush dessert on the way out, Haenyeo Sotbap is an easy choice for a meal with parents.

Parking and Catch Table waitlist tips for Haenyeo Sotbap near Suseong Lake

I found my picky mom's dream sotbap (hot pot rice) restaurant! If you're looking for a neat, generous Korean set-meal spot near Suseong Lake, pay attention. Today I'm introducing Haenyeo Sotbap, a Korean restaurant near Suseong Lake in Daegu that went viral right after opening thanks to its careful side dishes and deep flavors.

Parking was zero worry since we could use the building's own parking lot. Free parking is supported during meal hours, which was more than enough to enjoy the meal comfortably. Haenyeo Sotbap is on the 1st floor of the Leaders Building, and the entrance was so nicely decorated I felt good before even walking in.
A small tip for anyone visiting: this place gets crowded, so I'd recommend using the Catch Table waitlist system. Registering on-site via the Catch Table tablet, or setting up a remote queue on the app beforehand, is really convenient.
Inside the private rooms and what's on the Haenyeo Sotbap menu

Walking into this Korean restaurant near Suseong Lake, cleanliness was the first thing I noticed. The place was genuinely spotless. Private rooms for a more personal meal were well set up, and with kids' chairs available too, it was perfect for family outings with children or group gatherings.

The menu ranges from single dishes to full sets. Signature dishes like abalone sotbap, eel sotbap, and bulgogi sotbap stood out, along with signature 2-, 3-, and 4-person sets and an abalone braised short rib set for groups. There were also plenty of sides that pair well with sotbap, so it was easy to order to taste.
Grilled mackerel, mushroom tangsuyuk and the abalone and bulgogi sotbap spread
We ordered the Wando abalone sotbap (₩23,000) and the Unyang-style bulgogi sotbap (₩20,000).

After ordering, neat, tidy banchan (side dishes) were set out first. Starting with a crunchy salad that whets the appetite, the sides overall were flavorful without being too salty — clean and light.

The mushroom tangsuyuk (sweet and sour dish) and grilled mackerel served as basic banchan were especially delicious! Crispy outside, moist inside mushroom tangsuyuk and nicely browned grilled mackerel were real standouts. It was a spread that showed real care, fitting for a Korean restaurant near Suseong Lake.

Finally, the main sotbap arrived at the table. The moment the lid came off, a rich, savory aroma spread out and I couldn't help but drool. After scooping the rice into bowls, they poured hot water into the pot to make sungnyung (scorched rice tea).
The abalone sotbap my mom chose felt fresh. The chewy texture of Wando-sourced abalone and the deep flavor of its innards were soaked into every grain of rice. She took a big spoonful and was thoroughly satisfied, saying it was so savory and delicious.

The Unyang-style bulgogi sotbap I had was a textbook sweet-and-salty combo. The well-seasoned bulgogi wasn't tough at all — it went down smooth and tender. It's a flavor pretty much anyone could enjoy without complaint.

Finally, the savory, thickened sungnyung warmed our stomachs and wrapped up the meal at this Korean restaurant near Suseong Lake nicely.
Was the sotbap worth it? Mom's verdict and the slush dessert
My mom complimented the food several times throughout the meal. She seemed to really love it, saying she'd definitely bring her friends here for a gathering soon. As the one who brought my parents, that moment felt really rewarding.
On the way out after the meal, there was a thoughtful dessert corner too. Cool slushies and warm coffee were ready, making for a perfect finish.

From the neat banchan to the deeply flavored sotbap, the clean private room setup, and the parking — this Korean restaurant near Suseong Lake in Daegu was satisfying all around, and I'd definitely recommend a visit.
