Daejeon pasta restaurant for steak cream ragù: Plate

In short

Plate is a fresh-pasta Italian restaurant in Seonhwa-dong, Jung-gu, Daejeon. I tried bacon cacio e pepe, abalone geu cream pasta, and steak cream ragù with three different noodle shapes. Plate is a lovely date spot when you want to try a little of everything.

Visiting Plate in Seonhwa-dong, Daejeon, and the wait

Today I visited Plate, known for its fresh pasta, in Seonhwa-dong, Daejeon. Autumn has only just arrived, but it was decorated in a colorful Christmas mood! 🎄 I went right at opening, so there was no wait, but apparently it starts getting busy 40–50 minutes after opening? There were actually about four parties waiting when I left. If there is a wait, it would be good to join the remote queue on Catchtable before you come :)

A cozy black-and-wood interior

The interior was neat and cozy in black and wood tones. Wines decorated the walls, which made for a lovely atmosphere. There were around six tables for four people.

Ordering pasta with your choice of noodle

At Plate, a great pasta spot in Seonhwa-dong, you can choose the noodle for each pasta dish, which felt fresh and fun!!! 🩷 There are as many as 12 types of noodles, plus lots of pasta dishes, so it is perfect for a day when you want to try this and that, haha.

  • Bacon cacio e pepe (no. 6 pici)
  • Steak cream ragù (no. 5 pappardelle)
  • Abalone geu cream pasta (no. 1 spaghetti)
Three ordered fresh-pasta dishes

The basic table setting was neat, with plates, knives, forks, and spoons, and they also brought pickles. There was pepper and salt for dipping the steak, too, haha.

Such delicious-looking plates 🫧 It felt like they did not skimp on the ingredients ㅠㅠ❤︎ It took about 15–20 minutes for the food to come out.

Bacon cacio e pepe

Pici bacon cacio e pepe

The bacon cacio e pepe is said to be a rich, thick pasta where the nutty flavors of cheese, pepper, and bacon really come through. Maybe because the pici was made with only water and flour, it was nicely plump and had a lovely chew 😋 Rather than feeling thick and creamy from the very first bite, it started moist and became richer as the noodles absorbed the sauce. The seasoning was just right, and at ₩10,900 it is great value, so this is a dish I would recommend ~👍🏻

Spaghetti abalone geu cream pasta

This is the abalone geu cream pasta, ordered with the standard spaghetti noodles. I chose regular spaghetti for this one, but perhaps because it was freshly made, the noodles were definitely springy and delicious, haha. I tried a noodle different from the recommended one, yet it still went beautifully with the sauce and tasted great! Now I see why Plate is known for fresh pasta >_<

Abalone geu cream pasta dish

The abalone geu cream pasta was nutty and deeply rich. It can start to feel a little heavy as you eat, but having a pickle or one of the shishito peppers included with it helps it go down more easily. There are two abalones, so it would be nice to share one each when visiting as a pair 🤍

Steak cream ragù with pappardelle noodles

Pappardelle steak cream ragù

I ordered the cream ragù pasta with pappardelle, wide noodles with a texture like sujebi (hand-torn dough soup). It was my first time trying cream ragù, so it felt new ☺️ It was not greasy, just savory, and it was my boyfriend's number-one pasta, haha. It was nicely moist, and the broad noodles had a great bite; perhaps because they were substantial, they were wonderfully filling too 👍🏻 The steak came cut into easy-to-eat pieces and was cooked medium rare—savory, tender, and so delicious.

Plate is a fresh-pasta favorite in Seonhwa-dong that is just right for a date 💕 There is also a branch in Dunsan-dong, so if you are craving fresh pasta in Daejeon, I recommend Plate, haha. Another delicious meal today.
