Namdaemun glasses store: lensless wedding frames fitted, 007 Optical

Today I want to share my story of stopping by 007 Optical, a Namdaemun eyeglasses shop, while I was in Seoul ahead of my wedding!

007 Optical: location, hours, and parking in Namdaemun

007 Optical is on the 1st floor of Sangdong Church at 30 Namdaemun-ro, Jung-gu, Seoul. It's open 09:00–20:00, and posted as closed on the last Sunday of each month.

Why the groom visited 007 Optical the day before the wedding

With the wedding literally the next day, glasses were on my mind too, haha. I heard that people who normally wear glasses are recommended to wear contact lenses on the wedding day since there are so many photos?? But my husband said there was no way he'd wear contacts, so we needed a pair of lensless frames for him to wear just during the ceremony, while keeping his regular driving glasses as they were, hahahaha.

Also, thinking about the wedding photos, I wanted to pick something clean-looking but not too plain, without being overly flashy either. It happened that we had a trip to Seoul planned the day before the wedding, so my husband and I went to Namdaemun Market, and after hearing there are a lot of good eyeglasses shops around Namdaemun, we stopped by 007 Optical!

Apparently even the celebrity Sunwoo Yong-nyeo has visited this shop. There were photos and info about it displayed in the store, so we found ourselves

and looked around in surprise, haha.

What the frame display looks like: round frames to horn-rims

The first thing I felt walking into 007 Optical was "wow... there are SO many glasses" hahaha. Seeing it in person was even more than the photos suggested — the frames were packed in tight rows. There was everything from clean, basic designs to frames with more personality, so many types that it was actually fun trying on pair after pair even though we came for just one frame.

From round frames to square frames, thin metal frames to horn-rims, the styles were so varied that even people who aren't sure what kind of glasses suit them could easily try things on and compare. I could see why so many people looking for Namdaemun eyeglasses end up here, haha.

Sunglasses filling a whole wall at 007 Optical

007 Optical isn't just packed with eyeglass frames — the sunglasses selection was huge too! Sunglasses lined the wall in a long row, in so many different designs that my husband immediately said

Should I check out some sunglasses too?

haha.

But since it was the day before our wedding, we didn't have much time. In the end we didn't have time to properly browse the sunglasses and just quickly picked out glasses that day. Next time I have more time, I'd really like to look through the sunglasses properly!

Eye exams and lens consultations at 007 Optical

007 Optical explains that the owner, with 30 years of experience, personally handles eye exams and consultations, using up-to-date testing tech and equipment to give tailored advice based on your eye condition and wearing habits. So it didn't feel like just a place to browse frames — more like an optical shop where you can get a full eye exam and lens consultation in one visit.

When we visited, quite a lot of people were there getting lenses fitted. Some were getting consultations for progressive lenses in particular, and staff were constantly attending to customers. But since there seemed to be two staff members taking turns helping people, the wait didn't look too long. Since we just needed frames without lenses, we were able to get through the consultation fairly quickly.

They also had these cute clip-on designs where sunglasses attach onto the glasses, haha.

Lensless frames still get a left-right balance and nose pad fitting

Honestly, we went into 007 Optical thinking "we just need to pick out frames, easy!" But the owner was far more thorough than we expected, and I really appreciated that. He checked whether the frames were balanced left to right, watched which way they tilted once on the face, and adjusted the nose pad position down to the smallest detail. I thought picking a single frame wouldn't need much thought, but once it was actually fitted to the face, even small differences turned out to matter quite a bit.

Since it was glasses my husband would wear for the wedding, I was also worried about how they'd look in photos, so it was a relief that they were fitted and balanced to his face, haha. That level of care made me think anyone looking for Namdaemun eyeglasses should really visit in person for a consultation.

How did the lensless frames look in the wedding photos?

Wearing frames without lenses definitely meant no glare, so the photos came out much cleaner, haha. Especially in a place like a wedding venue with lots of lighting, glare bouncing off lenses can end up covering the eyes in photos, but since ours had no lenses, we avoided that and the photos came out clean. Just looking at our wedding photos, I could tell we picked a clean, well-suited frame, and I was really happy about it 💕
