Today I went to King Kong Butcher Shop in Suwon because I wanted to grill meat at home haha. Eating out is nice these days, but there's something surprisingly satisfying about grilling meat comfortably at home lol. I especially like to visit a butcher shop in person when buying hanwoo (Korean beef) so I can check the condition myself, and this time there was quite a variety on display, so I took my time browsing.

What kind of butcher shop is King Kong Butcher Shop in Suwon?
King Kong Butcher Shop, Suwon

King Kong Butcher Shop is a good stop for anyone in Suwon looking for hanwoo or pork haha. Walking in, the first thing you see is a huge refrigerated showcase. Everything from hanwoo to pork is trimmed and displayed by cut, so it was easy to compare and choose what I wanted lol.

Rather than the cluttered feel a butcher shop can sometimes have, it was neatly organized around the showcase, and in the back they were trimming meat by hand. It looked easy to ask for a specific cut or amount and have them prepare it for you haha.
Hanwoo flower-marbled loin, chuck flap and skirt steak in small packs
What really caught my eye at King Kong Butcher Shop was the hanwoo corner. Cuts like flower marbled loin, chuck flap, and skirt steak were pre-packed, and the meat color was vivid with quite pretty marbling running through it lol.

Even looking back at the photos, the fat is finely spread between the grain, which looked perfect for grilling at home. I also liked that you don't have to buy a huge amount at once — you can choose by the pack haha.

It looked like fun to pick a few cuts you're craving and compare them side by side. There was also a good range of pork, from versatile cuts like belly to several other kinds, plus what looked like seasoned meat products displayed alongside lol. There were a lot of options that seemed easy to cook right at home, so it looked like a good place to sort out a whole meal while grocery shopping.

How does the marbling look in the display case?
Hanwoo gift sets you can see and choose in store
One side of King Kong Butcher Shop had a separate section with hanwoo gift set information. If you're looking for meat for a holiday, a gift for parents, or someone important, being able to put together a gift set like this seemed nice haha. With hanwoo gifts, it's reassuring to see the meat's condition yourself, and the advantage here is that you can look it over in store before deciding lol.

Marinades, sauces and grilling sets with vegetables in one stop
King Kong Butcher Shop isn't just meat — there was quite a variety of things to go with it too. Herb salt, wasabi, ssamjang (dipping paste), beef/pork rib marinades, and cham sauce were all on display, so I could grab the seasonings I needed along with the meat in one trip haha. It's easy to forget the ssamjang or wasabi when you're planning to grill at home, but here you can just pick it up together lol. Inside the refrigerated case I also saw meat sets that came with vegetables included, which looked good to bring along for camping or a trip.

I liked that there was a ready-to-go set so you don't have to deal with the hassle of buying vegetables separately, buying meat separately, and packing it all yourself haha.
How did the hanwoo taste grilled at home?
That day I also picked a hanwoo cut with marbling I liked and brought it home. From the moment it hit the pan, the fat slowly began to melt and the surface started to glisten — just watching it was exciting lol.

Instead of cooking it slowly over high heat, I seared it quickly on both sides, and the texture was definitely tender thanks to the well-balanced fat.

One bite and the savory juices came first, followed by that deep, distinctive hanwoo flavor haha. It was plenty good with just a light dip in salt, and adding a touch of wasabi cut through the richness so much that I kept reaching for more lol. Eating hanwoo out can get pretty pricey, but picking out a cut I liked from the butcher shop and grilling it at home was a different kind of fun.

Best of all, you get to eat it cooked exactly the way you like, right away haha. If you're in Suwon looking for a hanwoo butcher shop, a meat gift set, or just good meat to grill at home, King Kong Butcher Shop is worth checking out.

Being able to see hanwoo, pork, and seasonings all in one place made grocery shopping easy, and I liked being able to check the meat's condition myself before choosing lol.

Next time I'll have to pick a few different hanwoo cuts and compare them side by side haha.
