Why Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu for breakfast in Sokcho?
Trying to figure out what to eat for breakfast in Sokcho, I went with my mom to Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu. It's open from 07:30 to 20:00, which is perfect for travelers who get moving early.
When I travel, I usually end up craving Korean food for breakfast. Or maybe just hangover ramyeon at most, but since this was a breakfast with my mom, I'd been thinking about it since the day before. Sundubu (soft tofu stew) felt right, so I found Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu.
Arriving at 10:30am: waiting time and parking
I got there around 10:30am and the place was way bigger than I expected. Right by the entrance, there were about 8 grown men standing in a group. 'Wait, is this a waitlist?!' I panicked for a second thinking there was a wait, haha, but it turned out they were just finishing up their meal and leaving.
The parking lot was huge too, so it was easy going with a car. Since we get around Sokcho mostly by car, I loved not having to circle around looking for a spot first thing in the morning.
I saw the photo of Grandma Jinsol on the sign, and she looked just like my own grandmother. That made me feel unexpectedly fond of the place, and it brought back memories of my grandma — I didn't expect to feel that at a restaurant on a trip. I even asked the staff how 'grandma' was doing, haha.
The separate dog-friendly hall at Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu
Since we were traveling with our dog too, I figured we'd have to leave her in the car while we quickly ate and got back out; but then, out of nowhere, a staff member mentioned there was a separate hall where we could eat together with our dog!
The staff were so kind that it put me in a good mood from the moment we walked in. Thanks to that, we got to have a relaxed breakfast with our dog.
The space was separated from the regular dining area, which made things more comfortable for us, and I was so relieved not having to leave the dog in the car. I think anyone traveling around Sokcho with a dog would be glad to know about this.
The restaurant overall was spacious and clean. The dog-friendly hall was pleasant too, making for a comfortable breakfast with my mom.

For breakfast in Sokcho, we picked one mild option — Chodang sundubu — and one spicy one — Sokcho-style jjamppong sundubu.
The two dishes were completely different, which made them fun to split and taste.

The jjamppong seafood sundubu came loaded with seafood. My mom and I both really love jjamppong normally, and this jjamppong seafood sundubu especially got a 👍
So good, so good! We kept saying this as we ate, haha
What I liked most was that the seafood wasn't just tossed in carelessly — there was a generous, substantial amount. Abalone, shrimp, squid, scallops — we really got the full Sokcho seafood sundubu experience.
The Chodang sundubu was also nice and nutty, and the seasoning sauce too~ I'd been wanting warm soup with rice first thing in the morning, and this menu choice was a total win that day! And best of all, my mom...
Would I come back to this Sokcho breakfast spot?

After the meal, Ulsanbawi rock came into view right in the middle of the main road in front of the restaurant, so my mom and I spent a while taking photos before heading off. Great view~ great food~
