Hanwoo beef restaurant in Suseong, Daegu: 100g galbitsal at Jangpro
In short
Jangpro Hanwoo Galbitsal is a 100% hanwoo (Korean beef) galbitsal (short rib flap) restaurant on Deuran-gil in Hwanggeum-dong, Suseong, Daegu. Two of us ordered one plate of galbitsal and a doenjang stew (soybean paste stew): the meat can be ordered by the 100g or as a 500g big plate to suit your party size, and the stew came with a whole chunky bone in it. With free corkage and parking on site, Jangpro Hanwoo Galbitsal is an easy pick for hanwoo with a drink.

Why we chose Jangpro Hanwoo Galbitsal in Hwanggeum-dong, Suseong, Daegu
Daegu hanwoo being this good value? This is my honest review after really eating well at Jangpro Hanwoo Galbitsal in Hwanggeum-dong. Whenever I crave hanwoo, the price tag makes me hesitate a bit, right? So while looking for a place that serves good hanwoo without breaking the bank, I found Jangpro Hanwoo Galbitsal.

It's located near Deuran-gil in Hwanggeum-dong, Suseong-gu, Daegu, so it was easy to find, and most importantly, this place only serves 100% hanwoo galbitsal, not the cheaper yukwoo!

Parking is available and it's corkage-free too, so it's a good spot for anyone who wants to enjoy a drink with their meat.

What we ordered: one plate of hanwoo galbitsal and doenjang stew
What we ordered that day was one plate of hanwoo galbitsal, plus doenjang stew, which is essential when eating meat.

The moment the hanwoo galbitsal arrived, the condition of the meat caught my eye first. The distinct grain of the galbitsal was intact and the red color was vivid, looking really appetizing.

Jangpro Hanwoo Galbitsal, where you can enjoy 100% native hanwoo galbitsal at a relatively reasonable price — save this one.

I cleanly finished off one plate of hanwoo galbitsal and doenjang stew that day, and it felt like a place I'd think of again whenever I want to really taste the savory flavor of the meat itself.

Ordering by the 100g or going for the 500g big plate
In particular, Jangpro Hanwoo Galbitsal's hanwoo galbitsal can be ordered by the 100g, and there's also a 500g big plate menu, so it's set up nicely to order according to party size.
Most of all, even though it's hanwoo, the price wasn't burdensome, which felt like quite good value given how hanwoo prices are these days. In fact, the store's own signage explains that they only carry 100% hanwoo (native breed) galbitsal and don't carry the cheaper yukwoo.

How the hanwoo galbitsal tasted and how it was grilled
The moment the meat hit the grill, the sizzling sound was the real deal. Hanwoo is best enjoyed by searing just the surface until golden rather than cooking it too long, keeping the juices in. So we didn't grill it too hard, cooked it to just the right doneness, and dug in right away.

One bite in, I loved the chewy yet tender texture unique to galbitsal. The more you chew, the more the savory beef aroma comes through, and it wasn't overly greasy, so I kept reaching for more.

I tend to prefer cuts where you can really taste the meat itself rather than something too fatty, and galbitsal was exactly that, which I liked.

It was also delicious with the side dishes it came with. At first I thought one plate might be a lot, but between the two of us chatting away, the meat on the grill disappeared in no time.

Doenjang stew with a whole bone in it
And then the doenjang stew we ordered to finish off the meal. But the moment it arrived, I couldn't help but do a double take.
I ordered it expecting the usual BBQ-restaurant doenjang stew, but there was one big chunky bone sitting whole inside it. There was literally almost an entire bone in there, so the visual alone made this doenjang stew stand out.
I ordered it planning to finish the meal after the meat, but I didn't expect it to come this hearty. Taking a spoonful of rice with the savory doenjang broth and picking the meat off that big bone made this alone a pretty filling meal.

Instead of just ending after the hanwoo galbitsal, finishing properly with a doenjang stew like this made the meal satisfying to the end. Doenjang stew is a must after eating meat, but here, having such a big bone in it made it feel even more generous.

Eating a spoonful of rice along with the savory doenjang base cut through the richness of the meat, and I was able to finish the meal feeling full and satisfied.

Especially after eating hanwoo and then finishing with the doenjang stew, it definitely felt like a proper meal compared to just eating meat alone.
