Today we went to Sonsi Sushi, already a well-known spot around Yeungnam University, haha.

Is there a wait at Sonsi Sushi in the evening?

The vibe at night is really nice, haha.

We timed our visit for dinner and there were exactly two tables left, haha. At lunch there's usually a wait too, so they even keep a sun umbrella out front for people waiting.

Nice touch, haha. With a Catch Table waitlist system too, Sonsi Sushi clearly is one of the go-to restaurants around Yeungnam University, lol.

Inside Sonsi Sushi: the dining room and table setting

Inside isn't huge, but it gives off that neat, tidy Japanese sushi-restaurant feel. The place is really clean, haha.

I wondered why it's called Sonsi Sushi, and it turns out it's from 'Son's Sushi.' What does that extra 'c' mean though, lol.

Once we sat down, they brought us barley tea, haha — nicer than plain water. The table had soy sauce and disposables, along with utensils already set.

There's also info on a review event, restroom, wifi, and more, and you can order extras like side dishes, small plates, scissors, or a portable charger via the kiosk. Super convenient!!

First course of the value set arriving

What comes with the 30,500 won value set?

From Sonsi Sushi's value set, the sashimi rice bowl, 4 pieces of shrimp tempura, and udon broth came out first.

Four crispy pieces of shrimp tempura
Udon broth served with the set

The shrimp tempura is meant to be dipped in the sauce, lol — crispy and really delicious.

The sashimi bowl comes with vinegar-chili sauce and sesame oil, and once you mix it, it turns out you should use all the sauce they give you, lol. The sashimi bowl was a total win!!

Anago liver futomaki and udon served next

While we were eating the sashimi bowl, they brought out the anago liver futomaki (roll) and udon... looked so good, honestly. There's cucumber in the anago liver roll, so if you don't eat cucumber, better to mention it in advance, haha.

And then, the 10-piece nigiri and soba!!

Weirdly I hadn't had soba all summer, so I ordered soba today too, haha.

Here's everything laid out together.

How were the 10 pieces of nigiri?

Sonsi Sushi's 10-piece nigiri came with egg nigiri, octopus wasabi, shrimp nigiri, tuna, flounder x2, raw salmon, raw shrimp, torched salmon, and soy-marinated shrimp. The egg nigiri was so soft — I wanted to pick it up for a photo and nearly dropped it, ugh. But it was absolutely delicious, haha. I took photos in the order of egg nigiri, octopus wasabi, then shrimp nigiri.

Tuna, flounder, raw salmon! The flounder comes as 2 pieces!

Raw shrimp and torched salmon! I forgot to photograph the soy-marinated shrimp, oops. Every single piece of nigiri was delicious, lol.

Anago liver futomaki with cucumber

Ankimo (monkfish liver) futomaki, 12,000 won: watch out for the cucumber

The anago liver futomaki has cucumber mixed in with the anago liver, haha. I'm not a fan of cucumber so I handed mine off to my wife and ate the rest, and it was so, so, so good... There are a few well-known restaurants around Yeungnam University, but Sonsi Sushi is genuinely one of the top ones, haha.

Empty plates after finishing everything at Sonsi Sushi

When the food is this good, leaving anything behind just isn't an option, haha. So the two-person dish-clearing squad got to work again... yes, this was all eaten by just the two of us^^;;

Lucky Yeungnam University students, having a sushi place this good so they don't even need to go to Japan — and Gyeongsan's best restaurant is right there on campus, haha.
