Sushi for two in Hayang, Gyeongsan: eel sushi at Sonsi Sushi Hayang

Where is Sonsi Sushi Hayang branch? A short walk from Hayang Station
I went to Sonsi Sushi, a Gyeongsan favorite for sushi. It's right there as soon as you cross the street from Hayang Station :)

How busy is Sonsi Sushi Hayang at 2pm on a weekday?
We came on a weekday at 2pm and it was still pretty busy. This photo was taken around 3pm when about 4 tables were still going~
You can even rent a portable charger, and the solo dining zone makes it easy to eat alone. Great spot for solo dining in Hayang or Gyeongsan.
Fans, disposable mouthwash, candy, hair ties, floss, toothpicks, even hand cream — all stocked at Sonsi Sushi near Hayang Station.
At Sonsi Sushi, a Gyeongsan sushi favorite, they use a jujube-infused soy sauce instead of regular soy sauce. It has a subtle sweetness and umami that's really good.

Sonsi Sushi is also running a draw event. There's a cash event, a free drink for orders over ₩30,000, and free shrimp tempura for orders over ₩50,000.
The water is barley tea too, which I liked — feels more thoughtful than plain bottled water.
The value set plus hoedeopbap: one table shared by two
The table filled up fast at Sonsi Sushi. The portions were huge — the value set alone was no joke — and the hoedeopbap (raw fish rice bowl) came piled high too. Seems like a great spot for a Hayang date.
The value set came out quickly — this is with 2 extra pieces added — and it comes with udon + shrimp tempura too!!! Such good value... perfect for light eaters to split. The udon portion is huge. And you get 4 whole pieces of shrimp tempura.
Salmon, flounder and the eel sushi that stole the meal
Sonsi Sushi apparently uses Norwegian Superior-grade salmon. It's aged Japanese-style with kombu (konbujime), which gives it great umami!!! The flounder had a different, chewier texture too.
Personally I wasn't expecting much from the eel, but it was so, so good. Soft, no fishy smell at all... genuinely delicious. Salmon is usually my favorite but that day the eel almost took the top spot!!
Ankimo futomaki, 12,000 won
Ankimo futomaki (monkfish liver hand roll), ₩12,000. Getting to eat futomaki in Hayang!!!!!! I've been coming to Sonsi Sushi here in Hayang since its old Sonsi Dining days, and honestly everything on the menu is good, so definitely try it. If you're stuck deciding where to eat on a date in Gyeongsan or Hayang, I'd recommend giving this a shot~ If I hadn't driven, I would've wanted a beer with this. Sonsi Sushi, officially a favorite.
Hoedeopbap, 9,500 won, with house-made chili vinegar sauce and gochujang
Hoedeopbap, ₩9,500. It comes with a house-made makgeolli-based vinegar-chili sauce that's packed with umami. Turns out hoedeopbap is a real hidden gem here. Salmon and flounder mixed together doubled the textures! My friend ate a lot of this one.
The house-made gochujang (chili paste) plus hoedeopbap and sesame oil is a combo that's satisfying without being heavy. I hear a lot of people eat here solo too — nice that you can get raw fish at such an affordable price.
Mixed it all up thoroughly and dug in. You can adjust the gochujang to your taste, which is nice. Turns out my preference is to pile it on generously :)
4 pieces of shrimp tempura and the rest of the sushi
The shrimp tempura comes with the value set, but it also arrived alongside the hoedeopbap. 4 whole pieces — such a win.
The shrimp tempura was clean and crispy, really good. The sauce is a slightly spicy mayo that pairs perfectly with fried food. It's also great eaten alongside the futomaki!! Sonsi Sushi, a Hayang Station favorite.
I liked the sear on the torched salmon sushi, and Sonsi Sushi's egg sushi was fluffy and tasty too. If I come back, I'm curious to try just the salmon sushi on its own.
If you're looking for a sushi favorite in Gyeongsan or Yeongcheon, I'd recommend Sonsi Sushi right in front of Hayang Station. It was busy even at 2pm on a weekday — a total must-visit :)
