There's a variety of fresh seafood in the tanks out front — as the hot summer fades, raw shrimp and gizzard shad season is back haha. This Guwol-dong sashimi restaurant is well known as an Incheon raw shrimp spot~

The interior of Veteran General Fish Market Incheon Guwol Branch is really spacious, with plenty of tables — a proper Guwol-dong sashimi restaurant. Even on an early-evening visit there were quite a few diners, and by the time we left the crowd had grown, true to its reputation as a popular Incheon raw shrimp restaurant for Guwol-dong dinners and work gatherings~

The self-bar at Veteran General Fish Market had a constant stream of guests. There's lettuce for wraps, various sauces, veggies, white kimchi, salad, corn salad — all the side dishes that go great with sashimi —

At this Guwol-dong favorite, you can also eat as much delicious kimchi pancake as you want!

There's storage space inside the chairs too, handy for stashing coats or bags

Inside the drawer under the table are utensils, napkins, and a bottle opener! On top of the table sit chojang (vinegar-chili sauce) and soy sauce~ Ordering is easy via the tablet at each table, and payment happens all at once at the counter on your way out!

The side dish spread and the self-bar kimchi pancake

The basic banchan (side dishes) came out quickly~ there's wasabi, ssamjang (dipping sauce), pollock roe, roasted seaweed, white kimchi, and seaweed soup too

A mini salad with sashimi on top? I ate it with chojang haha. Corn salad wasn't included by default, so I grabbed some from the self-bar haha

Zero-calorie cola (₩2,000) — cold soda is a must too~

There's kimchi pancake at the self-bar, and there's no way I'm skipping that~

Fried up nice and golden, ready to enjoy!

While the kimchi pancake was being made, the main dishes showed up too, filling the whole table haha

Live squid sashimi with fried squid, 39,000 won

The live squid sashimi and fried squid set is ₩39,000 — the combo of squid sashimi and fried squid is great haha. True to a Guwol-dong sashimi restaurant that uses only live fish hand-picked from the dawn market every day, the live squid sashimi is incredibly fresh! The portion is quite generous haha

Flying fish roe and seaweed flakes are sprinkled on top, and underneath there's a variety of vegetables — lettuce, cabbage, carrot, cucumber~

The squid sashimi has a nice chewy-yet-tender texture, the vegetables are crisp and fresh, and the savory touch of seaweed flakes and roe rounds out the live squid sashimi at Veteran General Fish Market in Guwol-dong~

The fried squid that came with it was also a really generous portion — freshly fried, hot and crispy haha. Fried food really is a must alongside sashimi~

Mini raw shrimp sashimi, 27,000 won for 10 shrimp

The mini raw shrimp sashimi is ₩27,000, served with fresh raw shrimp sashimi plus butter-grilled shrimp heads. There's plenty of ice underneath to keep it fresh till the last bite

True to an Incheon raw shrimp sashimi favorite, the freshness stands out and there's no fishy smell at all! Even the mini size came with 10 shrimp, and the shrimp themselves weren't small either~

The chewy yet springy texture is art, and eating it with a bit of pollock roe on top is an amazing combo haha

The butter-grilled shrimp heads were also a special treat~ the buttery aroma really gets your appetite going haha. Peel off the top shell, twist and lift the shell at the back a little, and you'll see the meat inside — just pop it right out! There was more meat than expected, and with no fishy smell and a strong butter aroma, it was genuinely special~

I thought about ordering a soup too, but there was so much I couldn't even finish the sashimi haha. Wrapped it up with ice cream for dessert~
