Yongin sundaeguk restaurant with no weekend wait at 11:40am: Yennal

In short

Yennal Gyeongseong Sundaeguk Yongin Main Branch is a sundaeguk (pork and blood sausage soup) restaurant inside the sundae alley of Yongin Central Market in Gyeonggi. Arriving on a weekend at 11:40am meant walking straight in with no wait, and the order was sundaeguk without intestines, spicy sundaeguk and a small chapssal sundae (glutinous rice blood sausage): the head meat was tender, and the spicy bowl tasted sharp and clean, nothing like a regular sundaeguk with seasoning paste stirred in. Avoid the 11:00am to 2:00pm rush and Yennal Gyeongseong Sundaeguk is an easy, comfortable meal.

I go to Yongin pretty often, and every time I do, I hear about this famous sundaeguk (blood sausage soup) restaurant. But I also heard the wait is just as famous, so I kept putting it off — until this time, when I was craving a spicy broth so badly I finally went!

Street scene of Yongin Central Market on the weekend

I love wandering markets, so I've visited Yongin Central Market a lot before! On weekends there's even a night market that opens up, so there's even more to look at. This time I visited Yennal Gyeongseong Sundaeguk Yongin Main Branch, so let me share the weekend wait, parking, and everything else :)

Where is Yennal Gyeongseong Sundaeguk Yongin Main Branch, and where do you park?

Exterior of Yennal Gyeongseong Sundaeguk Main Branch inside the Central Market sundae alley

Yennal Gyeongseong Sundaeguk is located inside the sundae alley of Central Market, and it was easy to find with a map. Honestly, since the line is usually long, you could probably spot it without a map at all.

Parking assistance is available too, so driving there works fine :) Just note that the public parking lots tend to be crowded!

What time is the weekend wait shortest?

Restaurant entrance with no wait on a weekend morning

I visited around 11:40am on a weekend, and luckily there was no wait! I'd never seen this place without a line before, so for a second I wondered if it was closed — but right after I got in, a line quickly formed. Usually the wait piles up between 11:00am and 2:00pm.

The inside was already packed with customers, which made me realize how lucky I'd been to skip the wait. Seeing a fully packed restaurant got me even more excited for how good the food would be!

You order directly at the table, and there's actually a bigger menu than I expected — pork gukbap, head meat, osori gamtu (pork stomach lining), chapssal sundae, and more! I'm someone who always sticks to sundaeguk, so of course I ordered that :)

Basic side dishes with kimchi and kkakdugi
Sauce paste, salted shrimp, and perilla powder on the table

The basic side dishes were kimchi, kkakdugi (diced radish kimchi), salted seafood, onion, chili, and ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste), and the table had sauce paste, salted shrimp, and perilla powder. You just grab more from the self-serve corner once you finish a side. Personally the kimchi was so good I went back for seconds — a good gukbap restaurant is always a good kimchi restaurant, right!

How does the sundaeguk without intestines taste?

A bowl of intestine-free sundaeguk arriving still bubbling

Sundaeguk without intestines. I was originally going to get the regular sundaeguk, but hesitated when I saw it had intestines — luckily there was an intestine-free option! It arrived still bubbling, and it was already well seasoned enough to eat as is.

Sundaeguk broth turned red after stirring in sauce paste

I like mine red with sauce paste stirred in, so I added some to deepen the flavor! Can you see all the ingredients in there? It was loaded with head meat, so I never ran short of meat the whole meal. If you're worried about head meat, don't be — the head meat here is tender and tastes basically like plain lean meat, no off-putting texture at all :)

Plenty of sundae (blood sausage) in there too, and the meat was so soft and delicious. It felt like perilla powder was already mixed in as a base, since there was a nutty flavor running through it that made everything even better.

Is spicy sundaeguk different from stirring in seasoning paste yourself?

Spicy sundaeguk. I also ordered one spicy version! The broth was definitely red. The spicy sundaeguk tastes completely different from regular sundaeguk with sauce stirred in — it's got a fiery, sharp kick that would be perfect for curing a hangover! Or if you like spicy food, definitely try the spicy version. Both were delicious :)

A bowl of spicy sundaeguk loaded with ingredients

The spicy one was also loaded with ingredients. There are plenty of restaurants in the market, but I get why this one in particular has grown into 'Yennal Gyeongseong Sundaeguk' by taking feedback from customers with high standards for sundaeguk — it's clear why it's called a must-visit spot! Even though I had high expectations going in, one sip of the broth was all it took to understand why.

The side order: small chapssal sundae

A plate of small chapssal sundae served with liver and lungs

Small chapssal sundae (glutinous rice blood sausage). I love sundae, so I ordered this as a side! It came with liver and lungs too. Since it's chapssal sundae rather than the sundae inside the soup, it had a distinctly different, enjoyable texture!

View of the counter area with takeout customers coming and going

While eating, I noticed a lot of delivery orders and plenty of customers coming in just to pick up takeout! If you're not into waiting, getting takeout might be a good option :)

I ate at the Yongin main branch, but I noticed several other branches have opened up too. Eating at a nearby branch is convenient, but I hope you get to try the flavor of the original location too.
