I'd been craving meat lately, so I went to Sikkkeop Yongin Gimnyangjang-jeom, a charcoal grill restaurant in Gimnyangjang-dong near Yongin Jungang Market.
I tried the beef short rib slices together with the seasoned pork king ribs, and the meat quality was great with a proper charcoal aroma coming through. This was a spot near Yongin Jungang Market where you could really feel the skill of an owner who's been handling meat for a long time.

What the Gimnyangjang-dong meat restaurant looks like from outside

The exterior is mostly black with a roof-tile touch, so the sign was easy to spot from a distance.
During this Chuseok holiday, the restaurant runs normal business hours — it's just Sundays that are the regular closing day.
Inside Sikkkeop: clean tables and group seating
Walking in, the first thing I noticed was how clean and tidy the atmosphere was. The tables were spaced generously, which looked great for a family meal or a group gathering.
There's group seating, so it seemed like a good spot for a work dinner too, and having the restroom inside the restaurant made things convenient. Sikkkeop Yongin Gimnyangjang-jeom was also running a Naver review event at the time.

The owner's 11 years of meat-trimming experience
The owner was really kind, too. Apparently they've run a beef restaurant and a pork restaurant under different names in this same spot for 11 years.
Maybe that's why the skill in handling the meat felt a cut above.

The meat came out neatly cut into easy-to-eat pieces, and the plating alone made me look forward to the meat even more.
What we ordered at Sikkkeop and the total bill

- Seasoned pork king ribs, domestic, 350g / ₩17,000
- Beef short rib slices, US Black Angus Choice, 150g / ₩19,000
- Lobster-flavored shrimp, 8pcs / ₩12,000
- Steamed rice / ₩1,000
- Drink / ₩2,000
What we ate came to ₩51,000 total.

The side dishes were tidy too — the shredded scallion was spicy and the kimchi was perfectly fermented, tasting great grilled on the charcoal as well.
Is the 19,000-won beef short rib worth it?

First, I grilled the beef short rib slices over the charcoal until golden brown.
Once cooked, the meat was tender to chew and the savory juices spread through my mouth. This short rib at ₩19,000 was genuinely great value.
Dipped in barley ssamjang (dipping sauce), it took on a rich, nutty flavor, and with just a touch of pink salt, the natural flavor of the meat came through.
Seasoned pork king ribs with cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew)

The seasoned pork king ribs had a subtle, well-absorbed charcoal aroma. The slightly sweet seasoning wasn't overdone either, and it suited my taste perfectly.

It was delicious on its own, but wrapping it with the accompaniments in a lettuce leaf made it even better. As they say, a good meat restaurant also has good rice.
The rice was nutty with just the right texture, and the bubbling cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew) that came out wasn't too salty, pairing well with the meat.
Charcoal-grilled lobster-flavored shrimp, the house specialty

Last, we put the lobster-flavored shrimp on the charcoal grill too.
Grilling shrimp over charcoal gave me a slight feeling of being out camping.
Peeling each shell one by one was fun, and I got to enjoy the shrimp's sweet, clean flavor along with it. Grilling over charcoal firmed up the flesh, making the flavor even richer.
Final verdict on Sikkkeop Yongin Gimnyangjang-jeom

From beef short rib to pork ribs to lobster-flavored shrimp, Sikkkeop let me enjoy a wide variety.
In particular, I could really feel the skill of an owner who's handled meat for a long time, both in the meat's condition and the prep.
Next time, I'd love to come back and try the crispy pork jowl and pork skin.
