Daegu ramen for three: wood ear and scallion toppings at Ryusenso

Craving ramen in Dongseong-ro, Daegu

Ryusenso Dongseong-ro is a place you can head to right away when you want ramen near Dongseong-ro Spark in Daegu. Bang-! We decided to head out to Dongseong-ro after a while, wondering how to spend a free weekend. There happened to be an 8seconds x Samsung Lions collab the day before, so I figured I'd check that out too while I was at it! (By the time I got there, even the mannequins had been picked clean, so I didn't get to see anything anyway, sigh.) We parked near Dongseong-ro Spark and suddenly craved ramen, and that's how we found Ryusenso Dongseong-ro!

Whenever I want ramen in Daegu, Ryusenso is a safe bet, haha! So we visited without any second-guessing.

Where Ryusenso Dongseong-ro is and where to park

Ryusenso Dongseong-ro is right on Gongpyeong-ro, directly across from the National Debt Redemption Park public parking lot. As I mentioned, it's in the perfect spot to stop by if you're visiting the area near Spark in Dongseong-ro! Great for people driving downtown too. We gave up on the public lot early and used a paid lot near the city hall instead, but it was still just a short walk, which worked out well! Being right on the main road also means you don't have to hunt through back alleys to find it — that's another plus of Ryusenso Dongseong-ro.

Luckily, we got in without any wait!

Even if there had been a wait, there were chairs inside where we could sit while waiting!

There were both counter (dachi) seats and tables, so it seemed like an easy space for solo diners and groups alike.

Ryusenso Dongseong-ro has a kiosk at every seat, so we could look through the menu at our own pace and pick what we wanted!

Not only was it easy to browse the menu on the kiosk, but we could pay by card right at our seat too, which was convenient!

There was also shichimi and pepper on the table, so you could season your ramen to your taste!

Ryusenso Kara level 1 with chashu, wood ear mushroom and scallion

My pick was Ryusenso Kara! There was a regular ramen option too, but that day I was craving something with a bit of a spicy kick..! Turns out everyone else felt the same, because both of my friends also went with the Kara ramen, haha, united in spice.

Just look at this gorgeous bowl,,! We went with Kara level 1 (afraid our stomachs couldn't handle anything hotter), lol. But after one bite, we all agreed — next time we're going higher! Makes sense, since we also added chashu and wood ear mushroom (we added quite a lot, honestly), and with all that, the flavor got richer while the spice felt relatively toned down compared to the base level. If you love spicy food, I'd say go for a higher level! And, just like us, I highly recommend adding chashu and wood ear mushroom too!!

Adding chashu definitely made each bite feel richer in texture! With the wood ear mushroom mixed in too, eating it with the noodles added a fun extra chew! One of my friends also added scallion, and there was enough of it that the three of us could share it! The chashu comes mixed right into the ramen, while the wood ear mushroom and scallion arrive in a separate container, so it's easy to share.

Does Jeju black pork gyoza go well with Kara ramen?

There was one more menu item that caught our eye — Jeju black pork gyoza! You have to eat black pork when you visit Jeju Island, right? And gyoza made with it? How could we resist that flavor..! We ordered it right away.

Just look at this golden-brown look,, taking a bite, the juices were well sealed in, giving a satisfying texture.

The black pork gyoza especially seemed to pair well with the Ryusenso Kara ramen! The spicy broth balances out the slight richness of the pork! Kara + gyoza, highly recommended combo~

And a cold cola, of course! You need something refreshing in between to cool things down!

Ryusenso Dongseong-ro in three lines

Ryusenso Dongseong-ro offers a decent range, from traditional Hakata-style tonkotsu ramen to fiery Kara ramen, so you can pick according to your taste. Personally, I prefer thin-noodle ramen, and the Kara ramen I tried this time suited my palate well. If you're looking for a ramen shop in Daegu, remember Ryusenso Dongseong-ro! See you next time-!
