Today I came to Gyodong in Daegu for Korean food~! They have all kinds of dishes — kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup), bossam (boiled pork wraps), pancakes — so it was great for trying a bunch of things haha

They make the noodles in-house using just flour, water, and salt!! A healthy taste with no additives 👍🏻 Since it's fresh noodle, it's chewy and doesn't get mushy, which I loved

Self-serve corner with salt, pepper and chicken salt

On the side there's salt, pepper, and chicken salt for seasoning and dipping meat. The chicken salt was finer grained than the regular salt

Side dishes of kimchi and cucumber-pepper doenjang mix at Donggok Jemyeon

Side dish kimchi tastes freshly made

The side dishes were kimchi and cucumber-pepper doenjang mix! You can see the kimchi's color, right? For a kalguksu place, the kimchi flavor really matters — and it passed just on looks alone haha. It tasted like freshly made geotjeori (fresh kimchi), crunchy and delicious

Table set with kalguksu, chive pancake and suyuk

A really solid spread came together in no time,, 🍚 A bit of everything~~ properly~~ I'll eat it all 🤤

Full seafood chive pancake at Donggok Jemyeon

Seafood chive pancake ₩15,000 — loaded with shrimp and squid

Seafood chive pancake, ₩15,000. This place really knows how to make pancakes,, chives fried crispy, plus generous shrimp and squid piled on top. There's red chili too for extra spiciness!

Close-up of shrimp and squid on the seafood chive pancake
Pieces of seafood chive pancake cut with scissors

They gave us tongs and scissors so we cut it into big pieces. There was so much shrimp and squid that every bite came with seafood too 👍🏻👍🏻

Vinegar-chili sauce and soy sauce served with the chive pancake

Gyeongsang-style vinegar-chili sauce, plus soy sauce

Did you know that in Gyeongsang-do, pancakes come with chogochujang (vinegar-chili sauce)? And pancakes dipped in chogochujang are seriously the best,, if it's on the table, I always dip mine in it haha

The soy sauce was the flavor we all know..! That good sesame-oil soy sauce taste hahaha. With onion and cheongyang chili in it, it was nicely spicy alongside the pancake

Gabrisal pork suyuk half plate at Donggok Jemyeon

Suyuk half plate ₩10,900 — gabrisal pork suyuk

Suyuk half plate, ₩10,900, made with gabrisal (pork shoulder blade) cut. Not many places serve this cut,, lucky me. It was so well boiled ㅠ.ㅠ good ratio of lean meat to fat, zero gamey smell, and so tender!! Comes with salted shrimp, doenjang, and radish kimchi

Salted shrimp, doenjang and radish kimchi served with the suyuk
A piece of gabrisal suyuk dipped in doenjang

The radish kimchi was sweet and delicious. Ate it with doenjang ~ and with salted shrimp ~ ㅜ ㅜ ugh, now I want more

Yukgaejang kalguksu topped with meat garnish and vegetables

Yukgaejang kalguksu ₩12,000 — mild spice, wide flat noodles

Yukgaejang kalguksu, ₩12,000. Homemade noodles in yukgaejang broth!! Topped with meat garnish and loaded with bean sprouts, shiitake mushroom, king oyster mushroom, green onion and more. The bowl is hot so be careful!! ❤️🔥

Wide flat noodles soaking in yukgaejang kalguksu broth

The noodles are wide and flat. They soak up the broth fully so every bite is moist. The spice level was just right, not too spicy at all!

Homemade fresh noodles stored in the fridge

Look, the noodles were sitting ready in the fridge like this. No wonder the doenjang was so good,, they had actual clay crocks for it,, house-made doenjang is the best!!
