Flounder mulhoe on an outdoor terrace at Yeongildae in Pohang: Oneuldo

In short

Oneuldo Gajami is a mulhoe (raw fish in cold broth) restaurant right in front of Yeongildae Beach in Pohang. The bowl comes packed with flounder sashimi in an icy, tangy broth, and the meal is rounded out with shrimp and flounder fritters plus abalone porridge, all enjoyed at an outdoor seat in the sea breeze. A nearby public parking lot makes it easy to reach by car.

Ryoha here ~~ I came to Pohang today to look out at the blue sea and spend some relaxing, healing time, so naturally I started craving a proper cold mulhoe and looked around the area. I ended up at Oneuldo Gajami (오늘도가자미), a Pohang restaurant sitting right in front of Yeongildae, where you can take in the open sea view and enjoy everything Pohang has to offer. It also has good parking set up nearby, so it was easy to stop by comfortably even with a car.

Is parking near Yeongildae actually hard?

Yeongildae is such a popular, iconic spot that parking is often a real worry, so having a convenient public parking lot to pull into right away made the start of the trip so much more relaxed.

Indoors or outdoors — where to sit?

Walking in, the indoor atmosphere is clean and well organized, more than enough for a pleasant meal. The tables aren't cramped together either, so it's a nice spot to chat with family or friends. But while the interior is comfortable, I actually thought the outdoor seats were just as good, if not better.

The outdoor seating has a mood all its own, and it ended up being the space I remembered most clearly. Sitting right there with the cool sea breeze off Yeongildae and that lively, distinctive ocean smell, it felt like more than just a restaurant — it was a chance to soak up the whole feel of the Pohang coast with your whole body.

The flounder mulhoe: portion and taste

After we sat down and ordered, the main dish arrived with a neat, well-arranged spread. The first thing that caught my eye was the portion — genuinely eye-widening. With mulhoe you sometimes end up wishing there were more raw fish in the bowl, but here the bowl came loaded with fresh flounder sashimi, so every spoonful gave you that chewy, generous bite of raw fish.

The sweet-and-tangy, ice-cold broth mixed with crisp vegetables, and the first bite genuinely perked up my appetite after a long day of running around Pohang. It was hearty enough to be a full meal on its own, but the cool, sharply savory flavor also made me think it would work perfectly as a late-evening drinking snack.

Beyond the mulhoe: what else came with the meal

Another reason this place stuck with me is that it doesn't stop at just the mulhoe — the shrimp and flounder fritters and the other varied side dishes brought a completely different kind of enjoyment. The sweet, plump shrimp, full of ocean flavor, paired beautifully with the tanginess of the mulhoe, and every accompanying dish was so well put together that there was never a dull moment at the table.

The abalone porridge was also wonderfully mild and rich. Eating only one dish at a raw fish restaurant can sometimes feel a bit monotonous, but this filled out the meal nicely and gave me the full happiness of trying several dishes at once.

There are so many mulhoe places in Pohang — why this one?

Of course, Pohang has so many famous mulhoe restaurants that it might seem like a dish you could find just about anywhere. But I think the reason this place gave me such particular satisfaction is that it came right after walking along Yeongildae and taking in the sea — sitting down to rest my tired feet at an outdoor spot full of atmosphere, with generous portions and a refreshing taste, added to the happiness of the whole experience. Easy parking, a great location right in front of Yeongildae, an atmospheric setting, and a satisfyingly generous meal all came together to extend the good feeling of the trip.

If you're looking to feel the romance of the sea in Pohang while getting a cool, hearty meal, why not visit this mulhoe restaurant — I'd happily go back myself.
