Pohang lunch with mom: cheongyang pepper aglio olio at Plan A

In short

Plan A Restaurant is an ocean-view Western restaurant on the 4th floor of a building right in front of Songdo Beach in Pohang, Gyeongbuk. On a weekday lunch with her mom, the writer ordered cheongyang pepper (Korean hot green chili) aglio olio pasta, mushroom basil pesto cream risotto, and a burrata cheese salad, and enjoyed all three. It's a solid pick for a date or family meal where you want both a sea view and good food.

Ocean-view restaurant Plan A in front of Songdo Beach in Pohang

The sea in Pohang has been looking so pretty lately, haha! And the sky's already full autumn. On a gorgeous day I went for lunch with my mom to Plan A Restaurant (플랜에이), right by Songdo Beach — the ocean view there was so pretty that I wanted to introduce it as a restaurant worth visiting for a Pohang date.

It really is right in front of Songdo Beach. The restaurant is on the 4th floor of the building with a Caffe Bene café, reachable by elevator.

Parking is available in front, beside, and behind the building — plenty of space, so it was easy to get in and out.

Interior and ocean-view seating

Walking in, the ocean view catches your eye first, and the whole place has a clean, comfortable atmosphere.

Thanks to the sea view pouring in through the windows, the space felt open rather than cramped — this Pohang restaurant lets you enjoy the ocean view no matter where you sit, which makes it great for setting the mood on a date. I was on a rare date with my mom :)

Baby chairs are available too, so it's also a good Pohang restaurant to visit with a baby.

What we ordered

Tablet ordering screen installed on the table

Ordering was easy through the tablet installed at each table. That day I ordered cheongyang pepper aglio olio pasta, mushroom basil pesto cream risotto, and burrata cheese salad.

Burrata cheese salad

Burrata cheese salad topped over vegetables and tomatoes

First, the burrata cheese salad. It came out beautifully plated — fresh vegetables and tomatoes with a round ball of burrata cheese on top, catching my eye right away.

Plate of salad with the chewy burrata cheese cut open

Burrata cheese is just delicious, isn't it? Chewy yet soft burrata paired with crisp vegetables and tomatoes made a great combination, and it went well alongside the pasta and risotto we ordered.

Burrata cheese salad served together with bread

Bread came with it too, so the salad was really filling!

Cheongyang pepper aglio olio pasta

This is the cheongyang pepper (Korean hot green chili) aglio olio pasta. The savory, sharp flavor of garlic combined with the spicy kick of cheongyang pepper was subtly addictive.

Oil pasta noodles topped with chopped cheongyang pepper

See the springy noodles with the finely chopped cheongyang pepper on top? Haha, once you take a bite, just looking at it makes your mouth water — it's not super spicy, so even people who can't handle much heat should be able to enjoy it!

The clean flavor typical of oil pasta, with the cheongyang pepper adding a little crunch and a mild kick of spice, meant there was zero heaviness — I kept reaching for more. If you go to Plan A Restaurant, I recommend this dish, haha!

Mushroom basil pesto cream risotto

And then the mushroom basil pesto cream risotto, which I really enjoyed — a smooth cream sauce loaded with finely chopped mushrooms, topped with basil pesto.

A spoonful of thick mushroom cream risotto

The cream sauce was thick and rich in just the right amount, so it was less heavy than I expected. The fragrant basil on top made this risotto really good!

Pasta and risotto served together with the sea view in the background

Every dish was a hit that day :) Plan A Restaurant, with Songdo Beach visible through the windows, was a satisfying Pohang restaurant both for the view and for a walk before or after the meal, and the food lived up to it too.

Final thoughts

When it comes to a date, I think atmosphere and view matter just as much as taste, and in that sense Plan A Restaurant's strength is letting you enjoy both food and atmosphere together. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for an ocean-view restaurant in Pohang, or wanting a quiet, pleasant place for a date. If you're in the mood to enjoy good food while looking out at the sea, how about a Pohang date at Plan A Restaurant!?
