Jeju ocean-view pork noodle restaurant: Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol

One of the stops I was personally looking forward to most on this Jeju trip was Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch (한담국수 곽지애월점), an Aewol pork noodle spot. It is famous enough that anyone visiting Jeju has probably heard its name at least once, and once I went myself, I could see why.

Finding Handam Guksu from Handam Coastal Road

The address is 1F, 33 Aewol-ro, Aewol-eup, Jeju-si, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province. It sits on the main road just 10 m from Randy's Donuts and Fiz Burger, so it was easy to find even without navigation. It is also a five-minute walk from both the Handam Coastal Walking Trail and Aewol Café Street, making it an easy stop while strolling or hopping between cafés. I arrived right as I was getting hungry after walking along Handam Coastal Road.

You get one hour of free parking when you use Aewol Handam Parking Lot (Randy's Donuts parking lot) or Handam Walking Trail Parking Lot. Just note that Handam Parking Lots 1 and 2 are not eligible, so do check before you go. I parked in front of the restaurant.

Hours and things to know before visiting

Hours are 10:00–20:30 daily, with a break from 15:30–17:30. Last orders are at 19:50. Monday is the one exception: it is open only from 10:00–16:20, with last orders at 15:40, so definitely check the time if you are planning a Monday visit.

I visited for Sunday lunch, and the tables filled up in no time. Pets are not allowed, so please keep that in mind too.

The whole building is neat and tidy, with Handam Guksu on the first floor and the solo-drinking bar Unstable on the second.

The Handam Guksu sign, written in large black letters on a yellow background, really stood out from a distance, so it was easy to spot. There was a fairly generous amount of parking in front of the building, and its location on a main road made it easy to access too.

Aewol sea views from every seat

The moment I opened the door, the sea view spreading beyond the floor-to-ceiling windows caught my eye. Every seat has an ocean view, so the Aewol sea looked refreshingly open from whichever table you chose. It was slightly overcast on the day I visited, but the expansive feeling meant it did not feel stuffy at all.

Several high chairs were available, and I noticed plenty of families with children. There were indeed lots of family groups with young kids during my visit.

Table-kiosk menu and ordering

You order using the kiosk at your table. Alongside the signature beef-bone pork noodles were mountain-high bibim guksu (mixed noodles), mala pork noodles in regular or large sizes, dongchimi bibim guksu (mixed noodles with watery radish kimchi) in regular or large sizes, lean-pork gukbap (rice soup), dombe suyuk (Jeju-style boiled pork), and house-made black-pork tteokgalbi (grilled minced-meat patties). Prices included ₩10,000 for dongchimi bibim guksu and around ₩11,000 for mala pork noodles.

Rich beef-bone pork noodles and dombe suyuk

I ordered the signature beef-bone pork noodles, topped generously with thick slices of boiled pork in a rich beef-bone broth.

The broth was rich and deeply flavored, and I found myself drinking every last drop.

I also tried the dombe suyuk. The neatly arranged thin slices of pork on a wooden board looked appetizing from the start.

The pork itself was clean-tasting with none of that unwanted smell. Wrapped with wasabi and the sweet-tangy sauce, it was not greasy at all and kept me reaching for more. I also loved being able to order it with the beef-bone pork noodles and enjoy both a soup dish and a meat dish together.

A self-serve bar to use as much as you like

There was a well-stocked self-serve bar at the back of the restaurant, where I could freely take as many side dishes as I wanted.

Dried radish pickle, hot peppers—the sign saying they were really spicy was memorable—and Cheongyang peppers made the noodles even more satisfyingly spicy.

Bowls, spoons, and small plates were also neatly arranged beside the self-serve bar, which made everything convenient to use.

A lunch that fits beautifully into an Aewol walk

If you are looking for a good lunch spot in Aewol, Jeju, Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch is worth keeping an eye on. A bowl of pork noodles in rich beef-bone broth alongside the wide-open ocean view can make an Aewol trip feel even more satisfying. If you are planning the Handam Coastal Walking Trail or Aewol Café Street, try adding it naturally to your route. It was the kind of place I hope will be loved for Aewol pork noodles for a long, long time.
