Pangyo Station lunch with glass noodles in spicy galbi-jjim: Useum
In short
Useum Pangyo Branch is a Korean restaurant and gastropub specializing in hanwoo beef hotpot, suyuk and braised dishes, a 2-minute walk from Pangyo Station in Seongnam, Gyeonggi. Two diners came for lunch on Malbok, the last of Korea's three hottest days, and shared the spicy braised beef short ribs for 58,000 won with glass noodles added in place of the usual udon noodles. The rice arrived 20 minutes before the ribs and an apron took three requests, but the food itself was satisfying, and the private rooms and group seating make Useum Pangyo Branch a workable spot for a Pangyo office lunch.

Here's my review of the spicy galbi-jjim (braised short rib stew) at Useum, a Pangyo Station restaurant that's great for meetups.

I went to Useum near Pangyo Station last Malbok to build up my strength! There are a lot of offices around Pangyo Station, so people are always looking for a place to eat during lunch, and that day too there seemed to be lots of office worker types around. It's a convenient 2-minute walk from Pangyo Station, and they also support parking.

Room and group seating capacity: does Useum work for a work lunch?
Useum Pangyo Branch has rooms for a minimum of 3 to maximum 23 people, and group seating for a minimum of 5 to maximum 30 people, with reservations possible from 3 people. The interior was clean and well put together, and the floor-to-ceiling windows made it bright and comfortable.
With separate room space available and reservations open from 3 people, I'd recommend this to Pangyo office workers or anyone looking for a spot for a work lunch or group meal.
What's on the menu at Useum Pangyo Branch

Useum serves a variety of Korean dishes made with hanwoo (Korean beef), including hotpot, boiled beef (suyuk), and braised stews.
The private room and the brassware side dish spread

We were shown to a separate room, divided by thin fabric curtains, with plenty of space between tables so we could eat comfortably. We ordered and called staff through a tablet.

The basic side dishes on the table were neatly arranged. Every single one was delicious, and the kimchi and diced radish kimchi were excellent too.

The tableware was brassware, which felt upscale. The chopsticks and spoon came individually wrapped, which was hygienic.

Each table had napkins, a bottle opener, perilla powder, salt, and pepper set out.

The rice came out quickly right after we ordered. A lot of places skimp on rice these days, but there was no sense of that here — a solid, filling portion of rice.

What fell short: rice 20 minutes early, three requests for an apron
But the beef galbi-jjim came out 20 minutes later, so by the time it arrived our rice had already gone cold. It would have been nice if they'd told us in advance or brought the rice out with the stew. We also had to ask for an apron three times before we got one, and the presentation of the galbi-jjim itself was a bit lacking. Since it was a hot summer day (Malbok) during a busy lunch rush, the service was disappointing overall, but in the end the food itself was really delicious. ₍ᐢ..ᐢ₎

Spicy braised beef short ribs, 58,000 won: how hot are they?
Useum Pangyo Branch's spicy galbi-jjim is ₩58,000, a max combo of spicy-sweet-salty made with handmade spicy sauce and short ribs cooked in a cauldron — adding udon noodles is a must. I went based on a review, but apparently it's normally plated more nicely!! There are shaped shiitake mushrooms on top and it comes out looking clean normally.

Anyway, since it was Malbok, I wanted something more filling than usual, and this galbi-jjim packed with all kinds of ingredients is basically the ultimate hot-weather energy food!!
Chunky short ribs came together with mushrooms, ginkgo nuts, chestnuts, and more, giving it a really nutritious feel. Eating it with all sorts of ingredients beyond just the meat made for a filling meal that never got boring.

Since it's called spicy galbi-jjim, I was curious how spicy it would actually be — it wasn't numbing-hot, more somewhere between mildly spicy and spicy. At first you taste the savory depth of the sauce, and the heat builds subtly the more you eat — it's the kind of flavor that's good for curing a hangover... or the kind that makes you want to start drinking again while trying to cure one. If you like drinking, I'd recommend this spicy broth as a good side dish for soju.
The meat comes off the bone easily too! It's not just spicy for the sake of it — you can taste the savory richness of the short ribs along with the flavor of all the different ingredients together, and it's so good.

There was so much short rib meat that the two of us ate until we were completely full, and it was fun picking the meat off the bone, well coated in the spicy sauce.

Putting a big chunk of short rib on top of your rice is so good. Korean food really is the best haha.

All the side dishes were great too — the diced radish kimchi was sweet and so good haha. A bite of meat and rice, then a bite of that!

Adding glass noodles instead of udon to the galbi-jjim
I had glass noodles added to my spicy galbi-jjim instead of udon noodles.

Normally the noodles come cooked together in the pot, but since the restaurant was busy, they cooked the glass noodles separately and brought them out on their own. In exchange, it seemed like they gave us a generous amount of glass noodles.

The well-cooked glass noodles had soaked up the spicy sauce, so they went great with the short ribs, and having absorbed all that sauce, they had a bouncy, soft texture too.

There was a lot of rice cake in there too, and eating it together with the added glass noodles made for a really filling meal.

It was spicy but not overwhelming, so it was really good as a filling lunch option. Maybe because we ate it on Malbok, it felt even more satisfying. Haha.

The verdict on Useum Pangyo Branch for a filling meat dish in Pangyo
Useum Pangyo Branch's spicy galbi-jjim came packed with all kinds of ingredients, making it a filling meal that felt like proper hot-weather energy food, and the spice wasn't just heat for heat's sake — it came with plenty of savory depth too, so it was satisfying. ✧˖°. It's a good place to visit in Pangyo whenever you're craving a filling but clean meat dish like suyuk or galbi-jjim. Next time I'd like to try the plain suyuk too. ꕀ ᐝ
