Gyodae Korean BBQ with overhead hoods, no smoke on clothes: Sodangkkae
In short
Sodangkkae O-gyeopjip Gyodae Main Branch is a cauldron-lid Korean BBQ restaurant on the second floor of the Gyodae meat-restaurant alley in Seocho, Seoul. The Sodangkkae assorted set for two costs 81,500 won, and with a bowl of rice and a drink the bill came to 88,000 won; staff grilled pork neck, pork belly and pork jowl in that order and even trimmed the king oyster mushrooms with scissors. Thanks to the hood above each cauldron lid, almost no smoke smell clung to clothes afterwards, making Sodangkkae an easy place to sit through a long meal.

A neat, friendly cauldron-lid Korean BBQ spot: Sodangkkae O-gyeopjip Gyodae Main Branch. I visited a kind restaurant that felt generous in portion and made me feel genuinely taken care of — here's my detailed review!
*Sodangkkae apparently means "cauldron lid" in dialect! I got curious and looked it up haha

How to walk to Sodangkkae from Gyodae Station

Sodangkkae O-gyeopjip is located in the Gyodae meat-restaurant alley! Their signs are plastered all over the building, so it's easy to spot at a glance!

Go around the side of the building and up to the 2nd floor — that's the entrance!
The second-floor dining room where smoke doesn't cling to clothes

The 2nd floor interior of Sodangkkae O-gyeopjip is really clean and comfortable, with wide seats and tables, so it looks good for group visits too!
There wasn't a trace of the usual grease-and-smoke smell you get at BBQ places — the hood installed above the cauldron-lid grill seems to work really well 👍🏻 Even after eating, my clothes barely smelled at all! 👏🏻
What comes with the Sodangkkae assorted set for two (81,500 won)
At Sodangkkae O-gyeopjip Gyodae Main Branch I ordered the Sodangkkae assorted set for two (₩81,500), rice (₩1,500), and drinks (₩5,000), for a total of ₩88,000.

First, water comes in plastic bottles — and they generously gave us two, which already felt generous—

Here's how the side dishes were served,

Scallion kimchi fans would be so happy — perfectly fermented and delicious! ⚡️ I don't usually eat scallion kimchi, but I devoured it that day haha

Before the meat comes out, they load the cauldron lid with vegetables first! With careful hands: king oyster mushrooms, enoki mushrooms, kkwari peppers, aged kimchi, bean sprouts, minari, bracken fern... plus garlic that I added too. A lineup missing nothing — that's really rare 🤤
Can you see the color of this meat! Apparently it's aged, precious domestic Duroc pork — I was thrilled to come across quality pork like this again haha

Tableside grilling: pork neck, then pork belly, then pork jowl
My Sodangkkae assorted set for two came with — assorted pork (neck, belly, jowl) — stew — and yukhoe (raw beef tartare). Just the right combo for a drink 😌 The grilling order: pork neck → pork belly → pork jowl!
The staff member grilled everything skillfully, cutting it into perfectly bite-sized pieces so I could just sit back and relax!
They cut every single vegetable with scissors, trimming even the king oyster mushrooms into easy-to-eat pieces — I was genuinely touched...
Perfectly golden-brown and cooked through!

So many wrap ingredients — 100% satisfaction!

You can choose between doenjang stew or kimchi stew — we went with the seafood doenjang stew! With crab in it, the seafood aroma hit hard, and it had a nice spicy kick!

Once the pork neck was fully cooked, they moved it aside and put the pork belly right on — so I could keep enjoying the moment while waiting for the next round haha

The pork belly is really delicious! Chewy yet tender texture, with just the right amount of meaty aroma — top notch 🔥

Every single cut of meat was high quality, with just the right meaty flavor plus juiciness — I couldn't help but say, wow, this is delicious!

Finishing with 1++ Korean beef yukhoe (raw beef tartare)
Just as I was thinking I might want dessert to round things off, the yukhoe (raw beef tartare) arrived!

Since it was fresh 1++ grade Korean beef, the color was on another level

Every single dish I ate felt made with care, and the service was excellent — I don't think you'll regret visiting at all!

It looks like it's been recognized as a representative Seoul restaurant, and both Zero Pay and Seoul Pay are accepted! Sodangkkae O-gyeopjip — definitely worth a visit~!
