What kind of bar is Seonganggoldak in Cheongju's Seongan-gil?

Seonganggoldak is a chicken dish spot in Seongan-gil, Cheongju, that nails both the mood and the taste. Any neighbors here who've already been?!

I went with a friend to this Seongan-gil bar that's famous locally as a great place for drinking snacks, and I went in with high expectations — turns out they also have piping hot kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) and a hearty sauced chicken leg dish, perfect for combining a real meal with drinks 🫶

Inside Seonganggoldak: atmosphere and seating for groups

Seonganggoldak Sinae Main Branch has generously spaced tables, making it great for friend gatherings or work dinners. I went right when it opened at 6pm, so I managed to capture the empty space before any other guests arrived.

Walking in, nostalgic tunes play and the cozy interior and lighting make it the perfect spot to chat comfortably over food and drinks ✔️

There are plenty of great drinking snacks here, but if you're at Seonganggoldak in Cheongju's Seongan-gil, the spicy chicken leg + seafood kalguksu combo is a must ✔️ They had a variety of set menus, but we went with the most popular signature option: the sauced chicken leg and seafood kalguksu set!

The chicken leg comes in two styles: one braised in special soy sauce, and one flavorful with house-made sauce ✔️ *If you're pairing it with the seafood kalguksu, go with the sauced (spicy) version rather than the soy sauce one — the extra spice makes the combo taste even better.

How the grilled spicy chicken legs taste

The moment it hits the table, the sight of the whole chicken leg is overwhelming — spicy-sweet yet deep sauce soaked all the way into the meat, one bite in and you're already craving soju,,,!

How the seafood kalguksu tastes

The cool seafood kalguksu was the perfect match for the spicy chicken leg — packed with seafood, the broth was rich and refreshing, balancing out the spiciness while filling us up nicely 💓

The noodles were chewy and delicious too! You know drinking on an empty stomach isn't great, right?!

Fill up warmly on kalguksu first, then one glass, two glasses, three glasses go down smoothly 🍶 I meant to just have one round, but the food was so good the soju kept flowing, hahah,,,one more bottle please,,,

Seonganggoldak, this Seongan-gil bar, handled everything from meal to drinks perfectly. If you want to skip going to two separate places in Cheongju's Seongan-gil and enjoy a great meal with drinks all in one spot, I recommend this Seongan-gil drinking snack favorite, with its hearty whole chicken leg dish and warm kalguksu broth that's especially nice now that the weather's turning chilly 🫶

I'm already hooked on the chicken leg and kalguksu combo, but looking at the menu, the other chicken dishes look seriously good too. I'll be back to demolish another menu item next time 🫶 (this time I'll drink just a little,,,probably,,,)
