Seomyeon date bar in Busan with cheese fondue and nabe: Mokhwa Silbi

In short

Mokhwa Silbi (목화실비) is a Korean bar-restaurant in Seomyeon, Busan, with both outdoor tent-style seating and indoor tables. Visiting as a couple, we ordered the 1SET, which pairs mille-feuille nabe (layered pork and cabbage hot pot) with cream cheese shrimp fondue that staff torch at the table, served with tortilla pizza, dinner rolls and pickles, plus rice noodles to finish the nabe broth. With proper cooked food alongside the drinks, Mokhwa Silbi makes an easy dinner-and-beer date course in Seomyeon.

On a weekend evening, my boyfriend and I were dating in Seomyeon and wanted dinner plus a drink, so we stopped by Mokhwa Silbi 🍺

When you're dating in Seomyeon, eating and then going to a café is nice, but sometimes you just want good drinking snacks with a drink, you know? This time we were looking for somewhere with a good vibe and a variety of anju (drinking snacks), and ended up at Mokhwa Silbi!

Mokhwa Silbi seating: outdoor tent seats or indoor tables?

Mokhwa Silbi has both tent-style outdoor seating and cozy indoor seats.

On a nice day, sitting outdoors and enjoying the atmosphere would be great, but we sat indoors so we could chat comfortably haha 😀

What comes with the 1SET for two at Mokhwa Silbi?

Since there were two of us, we ordered the 1SET menu! It comes with mille-feuille nabe and cream cheese shrimp fondue, which was perfect since we wanted to try both!

The drink menu was more varied than expected too — not just regular soju, but pretty drinks and sweet cocktails that catch a girl's eye, so if you like drinking there's fun in picking your menu 🤍

The basic side dishes were old-style sausage and acorn jelly cold soup.

The basic side dishes felt like the familiar go-to drinking snacks, and the acorn jelly cold soup was nice to sip on between bites.

Cream cheese shrimp fondue torched at the table: three ways to eat it

First up was the cream cheese shrimp fondue. Can you see how much cheese covers the whole pan?!

It wasn't just the shrimp fondue on its own — tortilla pizza, dinner rolls, and pickles all came served alongside it!

And right as the cheese started to melt, a staff member came over and torched it. Watching the cheese get flame-seared right in front of us made it look amazing even before we took a bite 👀

I started by dipping shrimp straight into the cheese, and the shrimp and cream cheese combo worked really well together.

Honestly it was already good just eaten like that, but wrapping the shrimp and cheese in the tortilla pizza and rolling it up was also delicious!

Can't forget the dinner rolls either. Dipping the bread deep into the cheese fondue meant the soft bread came out coated in cheese, so I kept reaching for more of it. The pickles were good to eat in between too, since they cut through the richness.

It was nice that it came with tortilla and dinner rolls too, not just shrimp, so we could switch up how we ate it.

Mille-feuille nabe with two sauces and a rice noodle finish

While we were still working on the cream cheese shrimp fondue, the warm mille-feuille nabe (hot pot) arrived.

Mille-feuille nabe with layered napa cabbage and meat

There was plenty of meat and mushrooms packed between the layers of napa cabbage, so it was more filling than I expected.

The mille-feuille nabe came with both a sweet chili sauce and a savory soy sauce, so you can dip according to your taste.

I tried it in both the chili sauce and the soy sauce, and both worked well!

I'm someone who wants soup with every single meal, morning, noon, and night, so after the cheese fondue, having warm broth every so often made for a really good combo ❣️

I really love the sweet pumpkin that goes into nabe, and dipping the meat, cabbage, and pumpkin together into the sauce was so, so good :)

After finishing the meat, cabbage, and mushrooms, they finally added rice noodles at the end. Can't skip this part ❗️ Slurping down rice noodles in the nabe broth made for a satisfying finish right to the last bite.

Does it pair with beer? Mokhwa Silbi as a Seomyeon date course

We had this with beer — cream cheese shrimp fondue with a beer!

A glass of beer next to the anju

And then warm mille-feuille nabe with another beer! It was such a perfect pairing for drinking snacks. Ordering the 1SET for two meant we got everything from the cheesy dish, to the warm nabe, to the rice noodle finish — great for dinner and drinks in one go.

You know how sometimes when dating in Seomyeon, a regular restaurant feels too predictable, but just drinking alone feels lacking? For times like that, a place like Mokhwa Silbi with proper anju to eat while you drink makes for a solid date course 😘 If you like an outdoor tent vibe, the outdoor seats are great on a nice day, and if you'd rather chat quietly, the indoor seats work well too.

If you're hanging out near Seomyeon, I'd recommend stopping by Mokhwa Silbi, a Seomyeon bar, as a good date spot. We had good anju and beer that day and had a pretty solid weekend evening!
