Rainy-day lunch ramen and yakitori don at bar seats: Menji Hanam Misa

In short

Menji Hanam Misa Branch is a small bar-table Japanese restaurant on Misagangbyeon-bukro 30beon-angil in Hanam, Gyeonggi. On a rainy day after a workout, the writer and a friend ordered from the kiosk at each seat: a handmade ramen + mini pork loin tonkatsu set for ₩15,900 and a yakitori don for ₩12,000, sharing both. The rich, spicy broth and smoky yakitori don felt like a trip to Japan, exceeding expectations.

Menji is a little Japan-in-Hanam lunch spot.

Last week on a rainy day, I went to work out and suddenly craved something hot and soupy, so my friend and I headed to a new Japanese restaurant near home called Menji for lunch. The moment I walked in, the interior looked so authentically Japanese that I genuinely wondered if I'd been transported there — totally my taste. From ramen to rice bowls, the portions were generous and the taste was excellent, so I'm writing this post in detail!!!

Bar seats good for solo dining: Menji's interior atmosphere

Small interior tables at Menji

Inside, it's a fairly small restaurant with seating for a maximum of 4, made up mostly of bar tables great for eating alone,

which actually added to the Japanese feel, pairing perfectly with the overall interior and lighting to give the sense of traveling in Japan,

The cute little props were adorable, and the view through the large windows, blended with trees, looked great for a date course :)

Kiosk at every seat: Menji's menu lineup

There's a kiosk at every seat, so it was convenient to browse and choose the menu right from where we sat, and

the menu wasn't just ramen — there were rice bowls, a summer naengmyeon (cold noodles) menu, and a variety of side dishes,

plus separate set menus available for enjoying the food more affordably,

Ramen set and yakitori don: our shared lunch

We ordered the ramen set and the yakitori don, two dishes we could enjoy affordably by sharing,

and overall the visuals were amazing and the portions generous — almost too much for one person — so the value felt quite good,

Menji's handmade ramen piled high with toppings

starting with the ramen: piled high with toppings so there was plenty to eat, a rich and spicy broth that would be great for a hangover, and noodles with a lively, springy texture that were delicious,

Close-up of the smoky yakitori don

then the yakitori don, with chicken that had no gamey smell at all, was clean and savory, and had a subtle smoky char that lingered pleasantly — I was amazed at how there was more meat than rice.

It came included with the set so I didn't expect much, but the so-called 'mini' tonkatsu turned out bigger than expected, with thick-cut meat that had a satisfying chew — every dish was more delicious than expected!

Menji Hanam Misa Branch: final thoughts

  • Great interior and lighting make for a good atmosphere — recommended as a date course
  • Everything from the ramen to the rice bowls was so, so delicious
  • The owner and staff were pretty friendly!!
