Ordering freshwater eel pot rice and cheese dakgalbi pot rice

I ordered the freshwater eel pot rice and the cheese dakgalbi pot rice. The side dishes were different for each menu item, and they were neatly put together, mostly banchan (side dishes) that suited each dish.

How do you eat Solsot's freshwater eel pot rice?
At Solsot Gwangalli, the freshwater eel pot rice comes with one plump whole eel lying on top of the rice. Mouthwatering, right??

Unlike regular pot rice, where you mix the rice and toppings together from the start, here you first scoop up the eel and rice just as they are.

Eating it this way, I could taste the eel itself even better. The eel was thick and chewy, and the texture was addictive.

The seasoning on the eel and rice was on the sweet side, not fishy at all, and it went so, so well with the chewy eel ❤️

Pour in the broth when a third is left
When about a third of the rice and eel is left, you move it to a small plate, add wasabi and a perilla leaf, and pour the broth over it.

It was the same dish but tasted completely different 🧐 The rich eel flavor loosened up softly thanks to the broth, and it felt like a restorative health dish, haha. I actually liked this version better. It's exactly the taste older people would love, so it made me want to come back with my family.

How big is the cheese dakgalbi pot rice portion?
What surprised me most about the cheese dakgalbi (spicy stir-fried chicken) pot rice at Solsot Gwangalli was the portion. It's not easy to feel stuffed after pot rice, but Solsot's cheese dakgalbi is different. Even at a glance, the amount of chicken looked ready to burst..

You scoop the cheese dakgalbi pot rice onto a plate like this, and with so much chicken in it, every bite came with a piece of tender thigh meat, haha.

I had never tried a cheese pot rice before, so I was a little worried, but the sweet and spicy chicken went quite well with the savory cheese. I can see why it sells out..

Pot rice nurungji and the yogurt after the meal
Pot rice means nurungji (scorched rice), right?! At Solsot Gwangalli, after eating some of the rice, you pour broth into the pot and enjoy it as nurungji soup. Finishing with the warm nurungji made the meal feel complete.

The table also has extra nurungji for people who might not feel full, so I added some, and the savory flavor was excellent, haha.

The owner gave yogurt to people eating in the hall, haha. How did he know you need something sweet to finish a meal!!

Besides the two I tried, Solsot has a variety of seasonal dishes. There's also a kids' menu (cheese pork cutlet), so it seems good to visit with children too, haha.
Solsot Gwangalli atmosphere and seating

The restaurant has a slightly Japanese-style interior and is spacious and pleasant. With tables for 2 and 4, it works for anyone from solo diners to groups.

Most Gwangalli restaurants are near the sea and small, so one wrong move and you're in waiting-line hell. Solsot Gwangalli has over 50 seats laid out comfortably, and I liked that the turnover was fast.
Wrap-up
If you're looking for a filling yet clean Korean meal in Gwangalli, I recommend Solsot Gwangalli. Lots of older diners come too, so it's a good place to bring your parents. I only just finished eating and I'm already dreaming about that eel,, I'll have to go back soon 😭
