As the cool autumn breeze started blowing, I felt like changing up my styling. So without any hesitation I went back to Beorn Hair Cheongdam (비오른헤어 청담점), a salon I'd been really happy with before.

Actually, the first time I visited I got a hair clinic treatment, and my hair got so soft afterward that I truly understood why people pay for professional care, haha.

What I remember most fondly is that there was zero pushy product sales or awkward chit-chat, so I could just relax during the care. Holding onto that memory of pure relaxation, I booked again — this time for an autumn tone-down dye.

Why patchy, faded hair needed a tone-down

I'd done an all-over dye back in late July. As time passed my hair damaged and the color faded, and the black roots grew back in looking messy.

My hair wasn't actually greasy here — I just took the photo before drying it, so it looks extra messy, haha.

I don't usually get root touch-ups. If I just fix the roots, the overall tone ends up looking uneven later on, and it eventually turns patchy.

Even though I don't love bright colors, I really can't stand that particular reddish-yellow tinge that shows up as color fades. So I just tough it out and wait to do a full all-over dye at once — and this time had finally come!

Choosing mocha brown and mocha beige for autumn

This time, to match the autumn mood, I wanted something calm yet elegant, so I decided on mocha brown / mocha beige!

This treatment was personally handled by deputy director Ko Do-hui of Beorn Hair Cheongdam. Bottom line first: the level of detail and expertise was really satisfying.

At some salons the head stylist just gives verbal instructions and leaves everything to the staff, which can be a bit disappointing, right? But Ko Do-hui personally handled most of the process herself — mixing the dye, applying it, and drying — which made me trust the whole thing.

Inside the dye process at Beorn Hair: scalp protectant and fast hands

The first thing that impressed me before the treatment even started was how carefully they protected my clothes. They wrapped towels and plastic film thoroughly, even underneath, so dye wouldn't splash or stain my clothes.

Next, she applied a cold scalp protectant all over my scalp. Thanks to that, while the dye was sitting and processing there was absolutely no stinging or burning — it was so comfortable.

The dye itself looked ivory-colored when I first saw it.

Is a different color going to get added in later?

I asked, and she said this was indeed the right formula — which surprised me. It was ivory when applied, but as time passed the color of the product itself gradually turned almost black!

The deputy director applied the main sections herself while a staff member assisted with the outer layers, then she did a final thorough check herself. Both of their hands moved so fast there was barely time for small talk. She kept wiping off any dye that got on my hairline along the way, since it can stain the skin.

The shampoo room: menthol shampoo and a soothing scalp pack

After the dye was applied, I waited about 20 minutes. They thoughtfully provided an easy-to-drink beverage and sweet snacks, so the wait never felt boring.

After 20 minutes I moved straight to the shampoo room. As soon as the shampoo started, that cool, refreshing menthol sensation spread through my scalp!

After rinsing the dye out thoroughly, they also did a soothing scalp pack and cooling massage to calm my tired scalp. Considering the dye had covered my entire scalp, adding this soothing care on top made everything feel refreshed down to the roots.

How long the all-over dye took: 1 hour 30 minutes total

When I came out after rinsing, my hair looked almost deep black at first. Ko Do-hui kindly explained, "After two or three days, once the dye settles slightly, you'll get exactly the subtle, pretty mocha shade you wanted."

What really surprised me was the speed! Thanks to her quick, efficient work all the way through drying, the whole visit — from walking in to walking out — took only about 1 hour 30 minutes. I was impressed all over again by how much precious time she saved for busy people while still delivering flawless quality.

The finished color: a soft, deep autumn brown

The blow-dry wasn't overdone either — just natural, pretty curls. Looking at my hair carefully under the indoor lighting, it had a calm, subtle dark chestnut tone that made for a perfect autumn look!

With the patchy roots and faded reddish tinge cleaned up, even my overall impression looked neater and more polished. She said in a few days once the color settles slightly, an even more luxurious mocha beige tone will come through, and I'm already excited to wear my autumn clothes out.
