Why Kkankkan Jjokbal Suwan Branch for dinner in Suwan, Gwangju
A few days ago my boyfriend and I were walking around Suwan and going back and forth on "what should we eat tonight?" while wandering through the dining street. Suddenly soft, savory jokbal (braised pork trotters) sounded absolutely perfect!
While looking for a can't-miss spot among Suwan's dinner options, I spotted Kkankkan Jjokbal and headed straight for the Suwan branch. Kkankkan is so well known that it's basically a guaranteed good meal 🤍

Inside the restaurant: seating and atmosphere
This was my first time at Kkankkan Jjokbal Suwan Branch, and I loved how clean the interior was and how much space there was between tables! There were already groups there when we visited, and the place looked great for work dinners or family gatherings too.

We were seated by a bright, open window.

Tip before you go: how to get the mini spicy bossam coupon
💡 An essential tip before visiting Kkankkan Jjokbal Suwan Branch! If you follow them on Naver Map or take part in the Naver receipt review event, you can get a coupon for a mini spicy bossam (wrapped pork). You've got to take advantage of a perk like that, right? We jumped straight into the Naver receipt review too.

Ordering the large charcoal jokbal (47,000 won) and makguksu (8,000 won)
Large charcoal jokbal plus makguksu — truly a classic combo!

We're always front-leg jokbal people, so we ordered our usual large charcoal jokbal (₩47,000) with its perfect partner, makguksu, for ₩8,000! If you're getting front leg, always go large 🤍

What comes free: sundubu jjigae and steamed egg
Pure abundance! The free side dishes and service completely won us over. As soon as we ordered, the table filled up right away with a generous set of banchan (side dishes).
- Plenty of salad, fresh lettuce and other wrap greens, pickled radish
- A spicy, hot sundubu jjigae (soft tofu stew)
- Soft, fluffy steamed egg (included for free!)
While we were freshening up our palate with the crisp salad before the jokbal arrived,

the bubbling sundubu jjigae came out next,

and then the steamed egg arrived too, on the house! All of this being part of the basic table setting was honestly moving...❤️

The mini spicy bossam from the Naver receipt review
And then the mini spicy bossam we earned from the Naver review event was brought out right away too.

I was surprised the portion was so generous even though it was free! The sauce was deliciously spicy-sweet, and from the first bite I thought, "wow, this is actually really good!" If you like spicy food, I highly recommend joining the event.

How the charcoal jokbal tasted
After a short wait, the star of the meal, the charcoal jokbal, finally arrived!

As soon as it hit the table, the gentle smell of charcoal and the glossy, shiny look of the meat made my mouth water instantly.

There was zero gamey smell whatsoever, and the meat was so soft it practically melted in my mouth.

No dryness at all, just pure moisture! Even eating the plain slices of meat by themselves was incredibly delicious.

Makguksu and jokbal in a lettuce wrap
We mixed up the makguksu, piled high with fresh vegetables,

and once mixed, the sweet-and-tangy sauce paired perfectly with the jokbal

Put a tender piece of jokbal on a lettuce leaf, add some of the tangy makguksu and bossam-style radish kimchi, and wrap it all up into one big bite... it's honestly a perfect combination.

And every so often, a spoonful of the spicy sundubu jjigae kept things from ever feeling too rich.

By the end, we even had fun picking off the last bits of meat clinging to the bone, and cleared the plate completely 🤍
Final verdict, plus the free ice cream on the way out
Just as we were finishing up and about to leave, we noticed a dessert ice cream corner set up in one part of the restaurant! Today's dinner adventure in Suwan was a success ❤️ If you're looking for a satisfying, delicious dinner or a place for a drink on Suwan's dining street, I highly recommend the hearty and delicious Kkankkan Jjokbal Suwan Branch.
