Goyang café with melon cream cheese cake and EV charging: Baedagol

I'm Sukkotdari, and I keep a record of my travels. There's a bakery café in Wondang, Goyang, where panicle hydrangeas are stunning right now. The garden is full of tall hydrangeas in bloom, so whether you sit outside or inside, it just refreshes your mood. And with good bread and coffee on top of that, it was the perfect café for a day trip near Seoul.

The hydrangea garden at Baedagol Bakery House

Tucked into a quiet village, Baedagol Bakery House sits in Wondang, Ilsan. There are more and more 'forest-vibe' bakeries lately, but most of them just create an artificial forest indoors — here, the yard itself is bursting with forest atmosphere.

It's panicle hydrangea season right now. The garden is packed with them, and tables are set among the blooms so you can drink your coffee inside a hydrangea forest. The sun's still pretty strong, but plenty of people were still drinking coffee or taking photos in the garden.

I learned for the first time that hydrangeas actually have a scent. The fresh floral smell mixed with the green freshness just lifts your mood.

Where to sit: garden view downstairs, window seats and a small room upstairs

This Wondang café has two floors — the bakery display case and counter are near the entrance on the first floor, and further inside are seats with a full view of the garden.

The windows are so wide that wherever you sit, you get that forest feeling. It's only slightly outside the city center, but it feels like you've traveled somewhere far away. I love this vibe so much~~~

The second floor has even cooler floor-to-ceiling windows. Sit by the window and the garden unfolds below you — even the parasols scattered among the hydrangeas looked fresh and lovely.

There's also a small private room on the second floor, perfect for a cozy time with friends or family.

Melon cream cheese, melon yogurt, salt bread and coffee

This Goyang café releases seasonal menus using seasonal fruit. Right now it's melon season, so there's melon bingsu (shaved ice dessert), melon yogurt and other melon-based items.

We ordered the fresh melon overflow yogurt and the melon-topped fresh fruit cream cheese, and they were completely amazing. I'd never realized sweet cream cheese and melon could go together so harmoniously. The yogurt really was overflowing with melon — one bite and happiness just washed over me~~~

Salt bread is a menu item I always order at any bakery café. It's the basic bread, so tasting it tells you right away whether a place is actually good at baking. I'm officially certifying this Goyang café as a real bread spot!!! The salt bread was genuinely delicious — chewy and moist~~ and the coffee had such a nutty richness that the sweet melon menu, the nutty coffee, and the salt bread all went perfectly together.

Parking and restrooms at Baedagol Bakery House

The lot in front of Baedagol Bakery House's garden is the main parking, but if that fills up, there are lots 2 and 3 across the street. Lot 2 has plenty of EV charging stations. Parking is plentiful, so you really don't need to worry.

Another thing I loved: the restroom is clean and pretty. You could tell they put real effort into it for customers.

Even the little potted plants on the window sills are a small but pleasant touch.

Is Baedagol worth a weekday trip from Seoul?

My husband got off work early, so this was our first weekday outing together in a while. Thanks to this Wondang café in Goyang, it turned into a genuinely lovely trip. I thought hydrangea season was over, but the panicle hydrangeas gave my eyes a real treat — and the delicious bread and drinks treated my taste buds too.

I even got a campagne (rustic bread) as a gift for leaving a Naver receipt review. Now I'm curious what next season's menu will be, so I think I'll be back soon. If you're heading to Goyang for a day trip near Seoul, I really recommend stopping by Baedagol Bakery House.
