Today, I’m introducing a great Sokcho sashimi takeaway spot to bring back to your accommodation during a trip. The fresh fish and generous spread were so good that all my friends couldn’t stop praising it. It’s Hoega (회가), a Sokcho favorite.
When you’re in Sokcho, eating straight away at a nearby sashimi restaurant is lovely, but taking delicious sashimi back and enjoying it comfortably at your accommodation is another fun part of travel. Being able to shower, settle in, and eat at our own pace was especially nice. The fish was fresh and the spread was satisfying too, so it’s somewhere I’d like to revisit on my next Sokcho trip.
Hoega location and takeaway route in Sokcho
Hoega is not right by the beach; it sits between apartment complexes. It is a restaurant where you can eat sashimi on site or order takeaway, so it was a good option for people like us looking for sashimi to eat comfortably at their accommodation during a Sokcho trip.
There’s also a K Mart right in front of the restaurant, making it convenient to pick up any extra food or snacks after getting your Sokcho sashimi takeaway. If you plan to eat at your accommodation, you can take care of sashimi and grocery shopping in one go, so the route is pretty handy.

Exterior and interior atmosphere
This is the exterior of Hoega, which specializes in Sokcho sashimi, delivery, and takeaway. The restaurant is tucked into an alley, but it is right at the entrance, so it wasn’t difficult to find. The white sign was particularly noticeable, making it easy to spot.

There was parking space right in front of the restaurant, so parking was easy too. The Angel Sharing certification posted at the entrance caught my eye, so I took a photo. I ordered takeaway by phone, but took some photos inside before picking up the food.

Inside, there was a self-serve corner where you could easily take extra side dishes, and the business hours were displayed prominently on one side. The space was not huge, but since it seems to focus mainly on delivery and takeaway, it was fairly quiet. It looked fine for dining in too, so I think it would be a good place to visit directly as well as for takeaway if you’re looking for a Sokcho sashimi restaurant.

There were really lots of menu options. There are more than the dishes I listed, so please refer to the menu board. Drink prices are listed there as well.

It looks like they write out that day’s assorted sashimi selection at the counter. The selection on the day I bought it was flounder, rockfish, doda-ri, and marumi (wild young yellowtail). Please note that disposable items cost extra.
Small assorted sashimi and assorted mulhoe takeaway
What I ordered was the small assorted sashimi platter plus assorted mulhoe. One reason I liked Hoega was that its takeaway menu includes a small size. When you travel, you want to try all sorts of foods the area is known for, right?? But if one dish is too large, you start wondering whether you have to give up another dish. Hoega has small takeaway options, so it was easy to order without feeling burdened. As someone who wants to taste lots of things in small amounts, I really loved that.

Ta-da! They packed everything carefully too. And when I received the order, it was seriously heavy, you know? I ordered the small assorted sashimi plus mulhoe, but the moment I lifted it, it felt so full that I thought, “Is this really the small size?” My anticipation went way up!!

As soon as we got to the accommodation, I took out the sashimi first. There was even this cute little note inside. These days, some shops pay attention to tiny details like this, and I think it’s one reason they win customers over.

I unwrapped everything and took a full spread shot—doesn’t it look incredibly generous?? There was assorted sashimi, mulhoe, mulhoe broth, wrap vegetables, somyeon (thin wheat noodles) for the mulhoe, aged kimchi, sushi rice, seaweed, ssamjang (savory soybean dipping paste), garlic, and more. The takeaway was packed so well that I thought it must be even nicer eaten at the restaurant.

As written above, the sashimi selection was flounder, rockfish, doda-ri, and marumi. They also included chojang (sweet-and-tangy red chili dipping sauce), ssamjang—you can mix it with the garlic and chili peppers they provide—and soy sauce. They even gave us a really huge container of chojang, which surprised me... hahaha.

Soak the mulhoe somyeon in the broth ahead of time
They give you somyeon with the mulhoe. Pour in the mulhoe broth and let the noodles soak; they gradually loosen up. Since it is takeaway, the noodles are stuck together at first. Soak them in the broth while you’re getting everything else ready to eat!

They also packed a variety of side dishes to enjoy with the sashimi. That ssamjang was the real deal. It had such a deeply rich flavor, and after mixing in all the minced garlic and chili peppers, dipping the sashimi in it was nutty and seriously delicious.
Back when I wasn’t very good at eating sashimi, I ate it only for the chojang flavor, you know?? But once I understood why people dip it in ssamjang, sashimi with ssamjang became the tastiest way for me. My friend said the ssamjang was too strong, but that was exactly why I liked it even more.

I took lots of photos, but somehow there isn’t a single ssamjang shot hahaha. We wrapped it with aged kimchi and made proper little sushi bites too. And we poured in the mulhoe broth generously~~

The mulhoe we ordered alongside it was also really delicious. The tangy mulhoe broth instantly woke up my appetite; it was refreshing, and we had some fried dishes among our other food, so the pairing was perfect!! There was plenty of sashimi inside too, so it was great to eat the chewy fish with the vegetables.
The somyeon in the mulhoe was especially a treat with the sashimi. With tangy-sweet, cold broth, chewy sashimi, and somyeon all together, the bowl disappeared in no time. It had a different charm from eating sashimi alone, and I was glad we ordered mulhoe with our Sokcho sashimi takeaway.

Why it was great for sashimi takeaway at a Sokcho accommodation
Overall, I was completely satisfied with Hoega, the Sokcho restaurant I visited this time. Above all, the sashimi was fresh and the takeaway spread was substantial, making it easy to enjoy comfortably at the accommodation. I also think having a small size is a huge advantage from a traveler’s perspective.
When you travel, there are so many foods you want to try, and it was even better because we could enjoy sashimi without the pressure of a huge portion. If I visit Sokcho again, I think I’ll get takeaway from Hoega again. I recommend Hoega for anyone who wants to conveniently take delicious sashimi back and enjoy it at their accommodation. Reserve by phone in advance and you can pick it up right away.
