Menu and ordering

I looked over the takeout-discount menu displayed on each table. There is such a wide variety of choices, including charcoal-grilled jokbal, spicy fire-grilled jokbal, garlic jokbal, and bossam (boiled pork wraps). Every main dish can be ordered half-and-half, with the option to add another half portion, making it perfect for combining flavors to your taste.

Ordering is easy through the T-order tablet installed at every table. At the top of the tablet was information about a Naver receipt-review event. If you scan the QR code and post a review with a photo, you can receive one complimentary item: rice balls, small makguksu (buckwheat noodles), 200 g of charcoal-grilled or spicy pork tail, or one of three mini jokbal options. We ordered the half-and-half jokbal (₩45,000) because we wanted to enjoy a range of flavors!

A complimentary spread with steamed egg and fish cake soup

Not long after we finished ordering, the neatly arranged complimentary spread arrived. The side dishes that pair wonderfully with jokbal were set out beautifully: spicy-sweet, crunchy seasoned dried radish strips; pickled radish wraps; fresh perilla leaves and lettuce; Cheongyang chili peppers; garlic, salted shrimp, ssamjang (savory soybean dipping paste), and a house sauce. It was the perfect combination for making the jokbal even more delicious.

The fluffy steamed egg comes as a complimentary dish. It arrived bubbling in an earthenware pot, seasoned just right and so gentle on the stomach that I kept reaching for it before the jokbal arrived.

And that is not all—they also serve hot fish cake soup as a complimentary dish! The pot was packed with skewered fish cakes, spicy Cheongyang chili peppers, and green onions, making the broth wonderfully refreshing with a pleasant kick. I think it would be the perfect drinking snack for anyone enjoying a drink.

Half-and-half jokbal for ₩45,000: charcoal aroma and spicy flavor

While we enjoyed the side dishes, the star of the day—the half-and-half jokbal—finally arrived! The generous serving in a large brass bowl made me gasp without even meaning to. One side was glossy charcoal-grilled jokbal, while the other was spicy jokbal grilled directly over a flame, giving off a subtle fire aroma. It was generously sprinkled with nutty sesame seeds, so it stirred up my appetite just looking at it.

I started with the charcoal-grilled jokbal. The skin was bouncy yet chewy, while the meat was moist and tender with no dryness at all. Because it is gently grilled over real charcoal, a rich, savory charcoal aroma filled my mouth with every bite—it was truly excellent. There was absolutely no unwanted smell, so it suited even my picky palate perfectly.

Next, the spicy fire-grilled jokbal had a deliciously spicy sauce thoroughly absorbed into the meat, and it was incredibly addictive. It is the kind of tasty heat that makes you keep eating endlessly when paired with steamed egg or pickled radish wraps! I placed a piece of jokbal on lettuce or a perilla leaf, then piled on crunchy dried radish strips, garlic, and ssamjang for a big wrap. It was pure happiness.
