Yangyang café boat ride with kids and dogs: Cafe Dunchi

I visited Cafe Dunchi (카페 둔치) on the Namdaecheon River in Yangyang with my daughter and dog. Beyond relaxing by the river, we could also take a boat ride. What stood out most was that dogs could join the boat ride too.

Can you visit with a dog and park at Cafe Dunchi?

Cafe Dunchi is at 295 Ilchul-ro, Yangyang-eup. Parking was available, and it was fairly convenient when I visited. It is a waterside café where you can take in a landscape of the Namdaecheon River and mountains.

I could bring my dog into the café and enjoy the boat ride together. The moment my daughter saw the café exterior, she was excited and said she wanted to take photos first.

Can you choose the boat ride duration?

I checked the rates before boarding, and there were options by ride duration. We chose a length that felt right for a light outing with my daughter. The area we could travel was wider than I expected, and it was enough time to take in the scenery at an unhurried pace. Spending time together on the Namdaecheon River did not feel like a waste of money.

What did we prepare before boarding with a child?

We had to wear life jackets before boarding. They had sizes from children to adults, and my daughter wore one that fit her. She was not uncomfortable, and the safety rules were explained carefully, which reassured me about boarding together.

What views and menu options does the café have?

The café is on the second floor. Through the full-height windows, the Namdaecheon River stretched out below us, with mountains and even the sea horizon in the distance. Just sitting there and looking at the view made me feel as though I could rest at an easy pace.

Along with drinks, there were several kinds of desserts. It was nice to choose according to our preferences and enjoy them together.

Until when can you use the boat ride?

I was told that, for safety, the boat ride is only available until 30 minutes before sunset. It may be difficult to operate on rainy or very windy days, so it would be best to check before visiting if you plan to ride the boat.

How was the boat ride with a child?

After putting on our life jackets and listening to the instructions, we boarded. Because it uses an electric motor, it was not fast, and it was neither as difficult nor as scary as I had expected. My daughter quickly got used to it and said several times that it was fun. I also enjoyed slowly moving across the water and looking at the scenery.

Can you drink or listen to music on the boat?

We could take the drinks we ordered onto the boat. There was table space to set drinks down, which was more convenient than I expected. We drank our drinks in the cool breeze while taking in the Namdaecheon River scenery. My daughter was busy looking around, while our dog spent the time quietly with us.

Bluetooth connection was also available, so we played music we liked. My daughter sang along, while I enjoyed the view at a relaxed pace. With a child and dog able to ride together and enjoy drinks and music too, it was a place I would like to return to.
