Late-night chicken in Hongdae, Seoul: Volcano boneless at Goobne

Looking for somewhere in Hongdae to chat comfortably with friends over chicken and beer, I ended up at Goobne Chicken Hongdae Red Road. I visited on a weekday at 8:50pm and got seated immediately, no wait.

Inside Goobne Red Road: outdoor tables downstairs, roomy 2nd floor

Both the 1st and 2nd floors were open, and you could walk straight up to the 2nd floor via an outdoor staircase.

The 1st floor had outdoor tables and indoor seating — despite being a chicken restaurant, it felt more like a bar or café than a typical chicken joint!

The restrooms were separated by gender and nicely kept, which I appreciated.

Upstairs on the 2nd floor, the space was really spacious — the tables were big and the seats well spread out, so it felt comfortable 👍🏻

There's also a big screen on the 2nd floor, so it'd be great to come watch sports here! When we went, it was just playing music videos on a loop haha.

There was also a self-serve bar where you could grab water, utensils, and pickled radish easily.

Since a lot of foreign customers visit Hongdae, there was even an English menu posted outside!

We ordered via the QR code at the table, which was handy since we each got to check the menu on our own phones instead of sharing one. If you go before 10pm, happy hour means all cocktails are 3,900 won — don't miss it if that's your thing~

Garlic butter wedge potatoes and Budweiser draft

The fries and draft beer came out first haha.

I love Budweiser, and draft for 4,900 won?! There was no way I wasn't ordering it,,^^ We were already pleasantly tipsy from the first round, so we sipped our beers slowly lol.

Garlic butter wedge potatoes — if you love beer-and-fries combos, you have to order these. Perfect match with the beer! The wedges weren't soggy at all, crispy outside and soft inside, genuinely delicious><

Lol my friends got so excited after one bite, so good that I told them to stop taking photos and eat faster lol. But wait.. is that soju I see too..? Unreal..

How does Goobne's Volcano boneless chicken taste?

Just look at how tender this Volcano boneless chicken looks, ugh...

We ordered all thigh meat, so the fork slid right in with barely a poke,,

Drool-worthy. The sauce has incredible depth of flavor and just the right amount of spice. There's a slight charcoal aroma too, and I ate it up happily><

Who is Goobne Chicken Hongdae Red Road best for?

• Anyone who wants chicken that isn't fried, for a healthier option
• Anyone who wants to enjoy a variety of side dishes and drinks

We stopped in trying to figure out what to eat for our second round, and since the chicken is grilled instead of fried, it felt a little less guilty, haha. Going boneless made it so easy to eat too! There aren't many chicken places in Hongdae with this much space, so it's perfect for group dinners or gatherings. They're open until 3am on Fridays and Saturdays, so it's great for anyone craving a late-night snack.

It'd been a while since I had Volcano chicken, and eating it again made me wonder why I'd forgotten about it for so long. I can still smell that charcoal aroma right now,,🐷 The combo with the garlic butter wedge potatoes was absolute gold! Highly, highly recommend><
