Chicken pub in Hongdae, Seoul with big screens: Goobne Red Road
In short
Goobne Chicken Hongdae Red Road is a chicken pub on Red Road in Mapo, Seoul, halfway between Hongik University Station and Hapjeong Station, with seating on both the basement and first floors. The writer ordered the signature Gochu Basasak (spicy crispy oven chicken) with extra Yoblring sauce and wedge potatoes, and because the chicken is oven-baked the fat drains off, so it stays light to the last bite. With roomy seating up to the second floor and a large screen, Goobne Chicken Hongdae Red Road works well for group dinners and chimaek (chicken and beer) nights in Hongdae.

When it comes to chicken, it's gotta be Goobne Chicken, right? Craving some clean, non-greasy oven chicken, I headed to "Goobne Chicken Hongdae Red Road" for their signature Gochu Basasak (spicy crispy oven chicken). The hall was spacious and clean, making it a great chicken restaurant for group dinners or chimaek meetups in Hongdae.

Where is Goobne Chicken Hongdae Red Road, and what are the hours?
Goobne Chicken Hongdae Red Road is at 366-25 Seogyo-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, about a 9-minute walk from Hongik University Station Exit 9 toward Red Road/Sangsangmadang. From Hapjeong Station Exit 3, it's about 8 minutes. Hours are Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Sun 11:00 to 02:00 the next day, and Fri, Sat 11:00 to 03:00 the next day. It's roughly halfway between Hongik University Station and Hapjeong Station, so it's convenient for setting up group meetups in Hongdae, and since it's on Red Road, it's also a great second-stop spot.
Is there parking at Goobne Chicken Hongdae Red Road?
❌ No parking available. You'll need to use public transit or a nearby public parking lot.
Pub-style interior and the outdoor terrace
Goobne Chicken Hongdae Red Road has a pub feel that's quite different from your typical chicken restaurant. There's outdoor terrace seating too, so on a nice day it'd be great for chimaek in an open-air atmosphere.

The whole place felt clean and tidy overall, so it was nice to eat chicken in the hall at a relaxed pace for once. Head up to the second floor and the space gets even bigger.

There are plenty of tables, so it's a good spot for a Hongdae group dinner or gathering.
Can groups book the space for a party?
It's exactly the kind of vibe where you want to listen to upbeat music and have chicken with a beer! On days with sports matches like soccer, there's a big screen, so gathering for chimaek would be fun too.

Even though I visited in the early evening, there were more people dining in the hall than I expected. Since it's a newly opened location, it's clean and has a nice atmosphere, so a lot of people were eating in rather than taking out. If you're looking for a place in Hongdae to gather with a group for chicken, this is a chicken restaurant that's great for group use.
Menu, QR code ordering and the self-service bar
Ordering at Goobne Chicken Hongdae Red Road is done through the QR code on the table. You pick your menu and pay right from your seat, which was convenient since you don't need to call over staff.

There's a promotion running with draft beer at ₩4,900 and cocktails at ₩3,900, and I ordered the signature Gochu Basasak along with wedge potatoes.

There's a separate self-service bar stocked with pickled radish, wet wipes, plastic gloves, small plates, and forks, so you can help yourself to as much as you need.
Gochu Basasak and wedge potatoes with three sauces
Of course, when it comes to Goobne Chicken, you can't skip the Gochu Basasak!

Gochu Basasak comes standard with two sauces, Goblring sauce and Marbling sauce. I'm the type who believes the more sauce the better, so I added a Yoblring sauce on top.

How does Gochu Basasak taste? Crispy with a gentle kick

Fresh out of the oven, the Gochu Basasak was piping hot, and eating it right away definitely made a difference in flavor.

The outside was crispy, but unlike typical fried chicken with a thick batter coating, it wasn't greasy and had a clean, light flavor.

That signature subtle spiciness of Gochu Basasak got more savory with each bite. The seasoning wasn't just on the surface either — it soaked into the meat itself, so it wasn't bland even eaten plain.

I'm not usually a fan of dry cuts like chicken breast, but even the breast here was moist and tender.

The outside was grilled crispy while the inside stayed soft and juicy, so as I picked the meat off the bone, I ended up finishing even the breast meat completely.

Dipping alternately in Goblring sauce and Marbling sauce, the flavor shifted slightly with each sauce, and it disappeared fast.

Personally, dipping it in the Yoblring sauce was my favorite combo.

The gentle, tangy yogurt-like sauce tames the Gochu Basasak's subtle spiciness, softening the heat while adding a savory, creamy layer.
Eaten plain, it's light and spicy; dipped in sauce, it's a whole different flavor — make sure you try it dipped!

The wedge potatoes came in a bigger portion than expected! The thick-cut potatoes were grilled nice and crispy, golden on the outside and fluffy inside, making them a good bite to pop in between pieces of chicken.

They're tasty plain, but dipping them alternately in Goblring and Marbling sauce made them a treat too! Since the Gochu Basasak is oven-baked, the grease really drains off, so it stayed light even down to the last bite.
If you're looking for a spot in Hongdae to have chicken and a beer, with a clean hall and plenty of seating for group gatherings, give "Goobne Chicken Hongdae Red Road" a visit.
