Goobne Chicken Hongdae Red Road, a good spot for chicken and a drink in Hongdae
I visited Goobne Chicken Hongdae Red Road, a Hongdae favorite. It's a spot centered on chicken but also serving all kinds of drinks, from draft beer to highballs. The vibe was a bit different from a typical Goobne Chicken store — much hipper — and it stood out to me as a place for chimaek (chicken and beer) on Hongdae's terrace seats.
That day I ordered the Goobne Chicken Original double portion. I'd gone in planning to just take out some chicken breast, but the atmosphere was so good I ended up looking around — and it seemed perfect for pairing chicken with a glass of draft beer too.
There was a bar table along with various other seating types, and outside there were terrace seats too. It looked great for chimaek with a night breeze on the Hongdae terrace, and since it's set slightly off the busy main street, the relatively quiet atmosphere was a plus too.
If you're looking for terrace-seat chicken or a chimaek spot in Hongdae, this could be worth a visit on a nice day.
Why I picked up chicken at Goobne Chicken Hongdae Red Road instead of chicken breast
Today I visited Goobne Chicken Hongdae Red Road.
I'd run out of chicken breast at home, so I came to take out the healthiest option, the Goobne Chicken Original. But since this is a very hot new store that only opened about two months ago, it felt like a waste to just grab takeout and leave.
Bar tables and highballs: what the Hongdae Red Road branch looks like inside
Goobne Chicken Hongdae Red Road was different from the slightly old-fashioned, health-food image you'd usually associate with Goobne. You'd normally think of Goobne as a bit dated or wholesome, but this place had an atmosphere as hip as any lounge pub, with a wide variety of seating types.
The bar table in particular, which felt like something out of a cocktail bar, was really appealing.
They actually served more than just draft beer — a wide range of highballs too.
Somehow highballs seem like they'd go well with Goobne Chicken too. Outside, there were terrace seats as well.
With the weather warming up, the night breeze was really refreshing, and it felt like a great spot for chicken with a glass of draft beer. I also liked that it's still quiet since it's a bit removed from the busy streets.
It seems like it'll get crowded soon, so I want to save this spot and come back before that happens.
How much chicken is a double portion? Three legs, three wings, 1.5 birds
The Goobne Chicken Original double portion I ordered arrived.
I was planning to eat this over two days, so I'd been debating whether to buy two whole chickens — I had no idea there was a double portion option like this.
Not just Original — Gochu Basasak can be ordered as a double portion too. The amount is definitely generous. It comes to a total of 1.5 chickens.
That means three legs and three wings included.
Original chicken has a reputation for being a bit plain, but when you actually need to eat chicken breast, nothing beats it.
Lowering your expectations a little really does seem to make life happier.
Even after eating quite a lot, there was still a full portion left. That was a very happy part of the whole thing.
