I'd been craving fresh, high-quality traditional Japanese sushi, so I headed to Moshi Moshi PNU Branch, a well-loved sushi spot that's held its spot near Pusan National University (PNU) for a long time.

Walking distance from PNU Station Exit 3, right on the main road
Moshi Moshi PNU Branch, a sushi restaurant near PNU in Jangjeon-dong, Busan, sits right on the main road, so it was super easy to find ♥️

The first thing that caught my eye was a huge, immaculately kept fish tank. Not a speck of moss or debris — just clear, transparent water with lively fresh fish swimming around, which instantly reassured me about the freshness of the ingredients.

Parking near a university street? Actually easy
Parking near university areas is usually a headache, but this place offers 1 hour of free parking at a designated lot right next to the restaurant, so I could visit without any parking stress at all.

Wood-toned dining room with a semi-open kitchen
Stepping inside, the soft, warm wood-toned interior gave off a calm, tidy vibe. True to a Japanese restaurant that's held its ground in front of PNU for years, it had a sense of history while still feeling very clean and well maintained (o゚v゚)ノ
Being able to watch the sushi getting made through the semi-open kitchen made it feel even more trustworthy!

Not long after ordering, the basic side dishes and salad included in the set were neatly laid out on the table. The clean, nutty flavors balanced perfectly — a great little something to nibble on before the sushi arrived.

A table packed full
Not long after ordering, dishes started arriving on the table one by one until the whole spread was finally laid out completely.

Colorful omakase sushi, salmon sushi with vivid orange marbling, freshly fried golden assorted tempura, soft tofu salad, a refreshing vegetable salad, and a steaming bowl of udon — the table was filled with no gaps left!

Raw fish salmon sushi, with the fish draped past the rice
The salmon sushi was overwhelming just to look at. Made with raw fish, the flesh showed a vivid orange color with clear pale marbling, and the fish hung past the tail of the rice — hearty just from the sight of it.
I dipped it in soy sauce with wasabi and took a bite. The thick salmon flesh wrapped softly around my teeth, and its rich, nutty oiliness spread across my whole tongue ( ͡~ ͜ʖ ͡°) True to fresh raw salmon, it had a firm bite with no mushiness at all — genuinely fun to chew.

The next piece I had with onion and white sauce. The sharp bite of wasabi and the crisp coolness of the onion cut through the salmon's natural richness, rounding out the umami in my mouth completely!

The main event: omakase sushi 12P
The main dish, omakase sushi 12 pieces, arrived showing off its striking visuals. Tuna, white fish, seasonal raw fish, eel, beef — colorful neta (sliced fish/topping) cut thick and generously draping the rice — the sight was pure art.

Flounder sushi
First I picked up the clear, translucent white fish flounder sushi on its own to try. It was aged perfectly, with a chewy yet springy texture that came through clearly in the mouth. The rice wasn't too sour or sweet either — each grain felt alive, and it balanced beautifully with the raw fish's clean sweetness the more I chewed!

Tuna sushi
Next I tried the vivid red tuna sushi, and the moment it hit my tongue, its cold yet rich fatty flavor just melted away. There was zero fishy smell, which made me nod in approval at just how fresh the ingredients were.

Eel sushi
The eel sushi, brushed with a sweet-salty house sauce, had flesh that was fluffy and soft with no small bones at all, giving off a strong, weighty presence among the seafood.

Each of the 12 pieces showed off its own personality and texture, and I kept marveling the whole way through emptying the plate ~(>_<。)\

Assorted tempura 3P and a side of udon
The freshly fried assorted tempura 3 pieces was a treat too. Fried in clean oil, the batter had a bright, clear golden-yellow color.

Lastly, I added a side of udon to make the meal even heartier ( •̀ .̫ •́ )✧ It came out in a big bowl loaded with crown daisy and fried tofu, bubbling and steaming.

I took a spoonful of the broth first, and the deep, rich bonito-based stock warmed my stomach right up.
The noodles hadn't gone soft and still had a chewy, springy bite! After enjoying the sushi and tempura, finishing with the hot udon broth cleaned my palate perfectly — a complete lunch with nothing left over.

To sum up
If you're after fresh, high-quality sushi backed by years of experience and a hearty set near the front gate of PNU — Moshi Moshi PNU Branch!

I liked being able to order comfortably through the kiosk inside the tidy, cozy Japanese-style interior, and having parking support made it even easier to access. If you're looking for a date spot or a nice meal with someone special in front of PNU, I'd definitely recommend giving it a try!
