As the hot summer nights faded and September rolled in, the breeze finally turned crisp. Right at the edge of autumn, for my birthday, I got to enjoy a special meal with my family after a while. I always love Bueokgan's signature refined flavors and warm atmosphere, but visiting on a weekday evening let me enjoy a whole different kind of charm.

What is the atmosphere like inside Bueokgan Sangmu Branch?

Every Bueokgan location has its own personality and atmosphere. Among them, Bueokgan Sangmu Branch, known as one of the best pasta restaurants in Gwangju, really stood out for its interior and mood.

This space was reportedly designed around a vintage classic Italian hotel concept, inspired by the ballroom scenes in the movie Titanic. The moment you step through the door, it's gorgeous and exotic enough to feel like you've walked into an old-world European hotel. Thanks to the vintage furniture and stylish props like something out of an actual hotel display, it's also a total photo spot — you can get a great shot from anywhere.

Is Bueokgan Sangmu good with kids? Baby chairs and children's tableware

With such a stunning atmosphere, this place is a smart pick for a date course or even a blind date. During the day, it's known as a popular brunch spot in Sangmu and is always busy, but visiting in the evening lets the classic mood shine even more, giving off a romantic feel.

I was also impressed by the thoughtful touches for families. Baby chairs and kids' tableware were well stocked, which made dining with a young child really comfortable. For families with little ones, whether a restaurant has baby chairs or proper tableware really matters, and Bueokgan Sangmu Branch handled that well.

Carbonara pasta, 19,000 won

That day, we ordered a variety of dishes to suit everyone's taste. Since we were at a top pasta spot in Gwangju, we couldn't skip the carbonara pasta (₩19,000). Popping the soft-boiled yolk and mixing it gently with the noodles was rich and savory — truly excellent. My child especially loves pasta, and every time we come here, she manages to finish a whole bowl by herself.

Wood-fired pepperoni pizza, 17,000 won

You can't have a family meal without pizza, right? The highlight here is the wood-fired pizza baked in-house. We ordered the pepperoni pizza (₩17,000), which had a bit of spice that really brought out the pizza's flavor. The chewy dough combined with the deep smoky char from the wood-fired oven made for a truly delicious bite. If you love pizza, I definitely recommend stopping by to try the wood-fired version.

Kung pao chicken pilaf, 22,000 won, for a rice lover

For my husband, who always needs rice with his meal, we ordered the kung pao chicken pilaf (₩22,000). He said the crispy, savory chicken paired perfectly with the well-seasoned fried rice, and he cleaned his plate too. The whole family got to enjoy their favorite dishes — a totally satisfying meal.

Warm, delicious pumpkin soup is something I never skip whenever I go to Bueokgan. The soft, rich pumpkin flavor is so good that it's the first thing that comes to mind whenever I think of Bueokgan — that's how much I associate this place with the pumpkin soup!

Parking at Bueokgan Sangmu and where to go after dinner

Bueokgan Sangmu Branch has a large private parking lot behind the restaurant, which is a relief in Sangmu, where parking can be hard to find. If you're grabbing brunch here, a light stroll afterward through Sangmu Citizens' Park is nice, and there are also large aesthetic cafés nearby that are great for dessert after your meal!
