Vintage hotel-concept pasta restaurant in Sangmu, Gwangju: Bueokgan

Hi everyone, it's Lara 🦝 If you've been around the pasta restaurant scene in Gwangju, you've probably heard of Bueokgan Sangmu Branch.

I've come here plenty of times with friends when we wanted a pasta spot in Sangmu, for dates, and even for wedding invitation get-togethers, but today I visited for a date with my husband 😊

Where is Bueokgan Sangmu Branch, and what are the hours and parking?

Bueokgan Sangmu Branch is at 25 Seogwangju-ro, Seo-gu, Gwangju, and it's open from 11:00 to 22:00. Break time is 16:00 - 16:30, last order is at 21:00, and you can also reserve through Naver Reservations.

🚘 There's a large private parking lot, so you can park comfortably before heading in.

Bueokgan Sangmu Branch is inspired by a vintage classic hotel in Italy.

The entrance is up a little from the parking area, where you'll find the door in.

We visited on a gorgeous day, which made the interior feel even better ⚡️ It's inspired by the Titanic's ballroom, so the oval seating can feel unusual, but honestly this atmosphere made for a satisfying date (?).

What comes with Couple Set A?

Bueokgan Sangmu's Couple Set A comes with pumpkin soup, two pastas, and two drinks. There's everything from à la carte to set menus, but since we're a couple 🩷 we went with Couple Set A.

The pumpkin soup that came out as an appetizer has that subtle sweetness and nutty flavor unique to pumpkin, deep and smooth.

The rich, creamy texture blended really well with the pumpkin's sweetness 😊

For a drink I went with orange juice for something clean, and it paired really well with the pasta!

How does the carbonara taste?

The carbonara has that authentic taste — a thick, rich cream sauce with a deep savory flavor.

The smooth, rich cream sauce clings tightly to the noodles, giving it deep nutty flavor without being too greasy, plus a salty umami kick that keeps you reaching for more 😊

The noodles were cooked with a nice springy bite, and combined with the thick sauce, each mouthful was so full of flavor that this is a dish I'd order again on my next visit 📌📌

How does the seafood tomato pasta taste?

The seafood tomato pasta my husband ordered.

It's a pasta rich in flavor, with the umami of the seafood added to a sweet-and-tangy tomato sauce. The sauce clings well to the noodles, giving it a tangy yet deep flavor, and the salty umami kick meant we enjoyed it without any greasiness.

If you like tomato pasta, this is a flavor anyone would enjoy, so I recommend giving it a try at least once.
