It has that distinct Japanese izakaya feel too, and seemed like a great place to quietly enjoy skewers with a drink!

What we ordered at Yakitori Gong and what it cost

The complimentary sides were cabbage salad and roasted peanuts!

  • Yakitori 6-skewer set — ₩19,900 [green onion chicken thigh · tenderloin · cartilage · gizzard · tsukune · pork neck]
  • Yakitori 3-skewer set — ₩11,900 [scallop · shrimp · king oyster mushroom]
  • Sweet corn — ₩4,000
  • Tonkotsu ramen — ₩9,000
  • Cider — ₩2,000

Watching each skewer being carefully grilled while we sat at the table made me want to dig in right away haha

Each table has a little wooden board, and that's where they set the skewers down!

Small wooden skewer boards on each table

The skewers didn't come out in order of what we ordered — they arrived in a random sequence!

The 3-skewer set: how do the king oyster mushroom and scallop taste?

Yakitori Gong's 3-skewer set (₩11,900) includes scallop, shrimp, and king oyster mushroom. The king oyster mushroom was really moist inside, and dipping it in a little salt made it so good haha

Plate of chicken tenderloin skewers

They told us the chicken tenderloin should be eaten first since it can get tough as it cools!! It had a slightly moist, chicken-breast-like texture!

The scallop was even better than I expected! It comes with 3 pieces and I devoured them in no time lol lol lol. Nice and salty~~

Three scallop skewers

The green onion chicken thigh was juicy and soft! The green onion was sweet and the chicken thigh was tender and moist haha

Tonkotsu ramen and grilled sweet corn at Yakitori Gong

Yakitori Gong's tonkotsu ramen is ₩9,000, and the corn is ₩4,000. It arrived partway through our skewers — and the broth was genuinely delicious haha. It had this hint of spice, a bit of heat, and the meat was so good that I wanted to order the pork belly skewers too, but they were sold out, which was such a shame ㅠㅠㅠ. Even though it's called ramen, the noodles were thin wheat noodles, so it felt more like a meat noodle soup than ramen!

Tonkotsu ramen with thin wheat noodles

It wasn't glutinous corn but sweet corn that was grilled, which I think is why it tasted even better!!! I almost ordered a few more but managed to hold back ㅠㅠ. Sweet and salty at the same time — insanely addictive!

The 6-skewer set: cartilage, chicken heart and tsukune textures

The 6-skewer set (₩19,900) includes green onion chicken thigh, tenderloin, cartilage, gizzard, tsukune, and pork neck. After waiting a bit, a huge pile of skewers showed up!

A wooden board piled high with yakitori skewers

The cartilage had a charmingly crunchy texture, and the gizzard was chewy with a nice crunch — if you're a regular gizzard lover, I bet you could eat 5 or more of these alone! That's how good it is~~

Tsukune chicken meatball skewer

My first time trying tsukune! Tsukune is a skewer made of grilled minced chicken meatballs. The outside had a subtle charcoal aroma while the inside was soft and moist! Definitely my first time trying it, but somehow it tasted familiar — like donggeurangttaeng (Korean meat patties)! Lol

Is Yakitori Gong worth it for drinks in Jung-dong, Changwon?

Yakitori Gong, a bar in Changwon, is a place where you can enjoy yakitori grilled over binchotan charcoal in a variety of cuts! It's the perfect spot for a light drink with some snacks haha. From green onion chicken thigh to tenderloin, cartilage, gizzard, tsukune, and pork neck, each cut has a different flavor and texture, but overall they're seasoned with salt and soy-based sauce as they grill, so the skewers themselves are well seasoned throughout!

The skewer-grilling area is set up bar-style, so you can sit and watch the skewers being grilled over charcoal right in front of you — that's part of the fun unique to a yakitori specialty spot haha. Beyond the skewers, there are plenty of other snacks too, making it a great Jung-dong, Changwon spot for a casual drink :ㅇ
