Today was seriously, seriously busy! T_T Driving lesson practice in the morning, then a job counseling appointment, then a PT consultation, then even a national certification consultation… nonstop moving T_T So I was really hungry!!! My last stop happened to be Seomyeon, so I was looking around for something to eat — lately I've been hunting for affordable good places since I'm between jobs!! That's how I found this gukbap (pork and rice soup) spot: Sanbandeul Pork Gukbap.
What is Sanbandeul Pork Gukbap in Seomyeon?
Sanbandeul Pork Gukbap is a pork gukbap restaurant on Seomyeon Jeonpo Café Street in Jeonpo-dong, Busanjin, Busan. They say it started from the question: why should pork gukbap, Busan's soul food, always be stuck in the same old mold?
They're open daily from 11:00 to 20:30, with a break time from 16:00 to 17:00. Takeout, delivery, reservations, easy pay, and parking are all available.

For a gukbap place, they have a pretty unique menu! Normally gukbap is just boiled pork, but Sanbandeul Pork Gukbap brought in a traditional French cooking method. They cook carefully selected pork shoulder and foreleg into a soft jambon, completely removing any gamey smell and maximizing the meat's tenderness!

How spicy are Sanbandeul's spicy pork gukbap levels?
Sanbandeul Pork Gukbap's spicy pork gukbap comes in levels 1, 2, and 3, and I ordered level 2. I wanted something a bit spicier than Shin Ramyun haha.

Is anyone here brave enough for level 3? hahaha
At first they give you chives and kimchi — apparently the chives taste best if you add them in toward the end of your bowl.
The spicy pork gukbap had wood ear mushrooms, green onion, bean sprouts, and all kinds of vegetables, so I got to eat a good variety. And the jambon-style meat was really delicious. A totally new kind of flavor!!
Fried chicken and wang-gyoja dumplings: prices and taste
For sides I ordered a small fried chicken (₩5,000) and 2 pieces of wang-gyoja (large dumplings, ₩3,800). Here are the prices.

If you're dining solo, I'd recommend the 1-piece wang-gyoja; if you're with a group, go for the large fried chicken and the 4-piece wang-gyoja.

The fried chicken at Sanbandeul Pork Gukbap is amazing dipped in the sauce. It's so crispy that I just kept eating piece after piece. And the portion is surprisingly generous,, even the small size is a lot!!!
Wang-gyoja is always delicious haha. I'm not sure what the red sauce they gave was, but it was tangy and tasty!
Does Sanbandeul serve sikhye after the meal?
At Sanbandeul Pork Gukbap, once you finish your meal, they give you sikhye (sweet rice drink) to cleanse your palate!!! It made my mouth feel completely refreshed!! They also sell sikhye separately for ₩5,900, so if you want more, don't worry, you can just buy some~~
There were also a lot of people calling in to order takeout!! A place good enough that people take it to go — Sanbandeul Pork Gukbap really comes highly recommended!!!
