Icheon Korean restaurant near Termeden: weekend ssambap, Neul Gogi Jip

In short

Neul Gogi Jip Icheon Main Branch is a Blue Ribbon Korean restaurant on Gyeongchung-daero in Icheon, Gyeonggi, run by a master of Korean cuisine and fermentation who makes the soy and bean pastes in-house. On the drive from Eden Paradise Hotel to the Termeden spa, the writer ordered the lunch special — soy-marinated crab with jeyuk ssambap (rice, pork and lettuce wraps) for two, plus a golden bomb cheese egg custard — and the soy crab was not too salty, with every side dish evenly seasoned. For a filling meal before or after a day in the water, Neul Gogi Jip sits right on the route.

Today I'm bringing you my review of Neul Gogi Jip Icheon Main Branch, the place I turn to when I'm craving a proper, wholesome spread in Icheon. It's about a 20-minute drive from our lodging at Eden Paradise Hotel to Termeden, famous for its water park, and about the same distance from the restaurant to Termeden after eating — so it was the perfect stop in between.

This time we went with the popular lunch special, a generous soy crab ssambap, and the short version is: the seasoning on every neat little dish was so evenly balanced that I fell hard for Icheon's healthy home-style spread and finally understood why Neul Gogi Jip carries a Blue Ribbon.

Even with a kid or lots of bags, you're basically at the store the moment you step out of the car, and the flow works well for a hearty meal after a day of water play at Termeden. It also pairs easily with plans around Eden Paradise or Miranda Hotel.

Jangdokdae jars from a master of Korean cuisine and fermentation, Blue Ribbon two years running

The row of jangdokdae (traditional sauce jars) lined up at the entrance of Neul Gogi Jip Icheon Main Branch tells you what this place is about right away. Since they make their own sauces and take fermentation seriously, every dish has its own depth of sauce flavor. Run by a certified master of Korean cuisine and fermentation, the restaurant has been on the Blue Ribbon list in both 2025 and 2026.

Just seeing the award banners hung around the restaurant builds up your expectations, and once you taste the food you immediately get why people specifically talk about this place's 'sauce flavor.' I'd confidently call it an Icheon go-to.

Inside Neul Gogi Jip: sofa seats, group tables and private rooms

The interior of Neul Gogi Jip Icheon Main Branch is spacious, well kept, and the tables have plenty of breathing room. With comfortable sofa seats, large group seating, and even private rooms, it's great whether you're in a big group or want a quiet meal. The vibe also suits special occasions like birthdays or anniversaries, or a relaxed meal with parents. On a scorching day like this, the interior felt cool the moment we walked in, and I was in a good mood the second I sat down.

Can you order the lunch special on a weekend?

One big advantage of Neul Gogi Jip is that you can order the lunch special even on weekends. Families who can't make time on weekdays can enjoy a generous spread without any hassle on a Saturday or Sunday. We went with the soy crab ssambap for two and added a golden cheese egg custard on the side. You can order easily via kiosk.

Side dishes: an evenly seasoned, hanjeongsik-style spread

The moment the table was set, I thought, 'Wait, is this really a meat restaurant?' — the side dishes were that neat. From namul (seasoned vegetables) to water kimchi to various muchim (seasoned salads), there was plenty of variety, and above all, every single one was evenly seasoned. So many restaurants these days go heavy and salty, but here it was as comforting as home cooking, and my chopsticks kept reaching back. I nearly finished a bowl of rice on side dishes alone before the mains even arrived.

Soy-marinated crab that isn't too salty, with Icheon rice

What really got me on this table was the ganjang gejang (soy sauce marinated crab). It looked glossy and gorgeous, but more importantly, it wasn't as salty as other places, so the crab's natural sweetness came through. It paired especially well with freshly steamed Icheon rice — scooping the crab meat onto hot rice was pure rice-thief territory. Even people sensitive to salt could enjoy this comfortably.

Jeyuk bokkeum (spicy stir-fried pork) and the golden bomb cheese egg custard

The jeyuk bokkeum (spicy stir-fried pork) was seasoned just right — not too spicy, not too sweet — and the sauce clung nicely to the meat. It wasn't just a pile of gochujang; you could taste layers of deep umami coming from the house sauces, making it perfect wrapped in lettuce with a slice of garlic.

The golden cheese egg custard we added was piled with cheese over a soft steamed egg custard — the kind of dish kids especially love. It also worked well alternated with bites of the spicy pork.

Beef tendon doenjang stew and the self-serve lettuce bar

This isn't your typical free side-dish doenjang stew. The broth, made with rich house doenjang and beef stock, is heavy and deep, and it's loaded with tender beef tendon — a bowl of rice disappears in no time with this.

You can grab fresh lettuce and other basic sides from the self-serve bar, and it was kept clean, so I felt comfortable helping myself.

The menu beyond the lunch special: grilled meat and rice dishes

I thought this was purely a BBQ place, but the menu spectrum turned out to be quite wide. Beyond the lunch special, there's beef short ribs, marinated pork ribs, pork belly, yukhoe (beef tartare), plus galbitang, naengmyeon, pot rice, doenjang stew, and even set meals of soy crab or ssambap — plenty to choose from depending on your mood. They also allow wine corkage, which is handy for gatherings. We went with the lunch special this time, but I'm already planning a return trip to properly try the beef short ribs.

Hot stone pot rice crust and free dessert in the lounge

The rice comes not as a regular bowl but in a hot stone pot, so the moment you lift the lid, a nutty aroma hits you. Scoop out the rice and pour in water, and by the end of the meal you get a savory scorched-rice finish. And after eating, you can head to the lounge for coffee and soft-serve ice cream — the ice cream was genuinely delicious, so even after eating a hearty meal we each walked out with a cone in hand. (Dessert is only available inside the lounge.) By the way, apparently there's an event where leaving a review gets you a free basic egg custard, so it's worth checking before your visit to make the most of it.

Who should eat at Neul Gogi Jip Icheon Main Branch?

In short, Neul Gogi Jip Icheon Main Branch is a place where you can properly enjoy hanjeongsik-level side dishes, deep sauce flavor, and a wholesome, generous Icheon spread. The seasoning is comfortably even, so both kids and adults eat well, and it's more than suitable for bringing parents or celebrating a family occasion. There's enough of a crowd that there can be a wait at lunchtime, so I'd recommend heading over a bit early. If you need a hearty meal after Termeden water play or an outing to Eden Paradise, I confidently recommend this as an Icheon go-to!
